I'm considering a Land Pride STB1596 for my L6060. Yes, I know it's mid summer but winter will get here eventually. Although there is a lot here and elsewhere on FEL snowplows, I've found little specific to these 2 questions:

1 - Is a 96" plow too large for the L6060 and LA1055 FEL? The tractor HP is on the high side of the 30 - 70 HP range specified for the product, but I'm more concerned about the side load exerted on the FEL when the plow is angled.

2 - Is the Land Pride plow really worth the extra $1000 or so over cheaper competitor models?

Any comments, suggestions or real world experience would be appreciated.

I have a Curtis 8ft.coverted truck plow mounted on my QD FEL;on a very similar tractor the L4240 HSTC.I have loaded rears(R1's).I plow about five miles of drives and wood's road with no problems at all.I also run a 7ft.rear blade(Landpride).
I have had good luck with Landpride products;a 6ft.bush-hog+the rear blade.
Make sure your front plow has a "cross-over relief valve".
After taking a look at the Landpride site;it has a "cushion" valve so you are set there;the difference between that one and mine is that my set-up floats the plow(with a chain like a truck set-up),the Landpride doesn't look like it does this.
IMHO,it will work best on hard(paved) surfaces;"may not" on dirt or gravel. You will have to float the FEL which puts a lot of weight on the ground.

I picked up a 8' snow dawg last fall for my new L4050hstc. No clue how it works as we got no snow, even after the blizzard warning that had me out assembling the dam thing in 5 degree weather.

It has no float on it for lift or side to side, which I'm assuming will work poorly. But I wanted to give it a shot before I modified my brand new plow. My old home built plow that ran off with my L3200 had plenty of tilt & vertical float, which worked well.

I'm guessing my L4060 will plow as well as your L6060. You have 20hp on me, but no extra weight so you'll have the same traction as I will. And plowing is a game of traction as much as power. There is only 1 time on my L3200 I can remember wanting more power while plowing. Had good traction plowing up a bit of a hill. Every other time it was lack of traction.

Personally I'd go with a 8' over a 9'. When windrowing or doing a 2nd pass you can re-plow an open but for less load, but your options are limited on a first pass. Can add wings later if you have the traction & need more capacity.

I have a couple of observations about my Open Station Kioti DK 35 (4x4, all with chains) that has an HLA plow on front. These items may not apply to all rigs, just what I have seen on mine:

1. The cross over relief is very important but mine does have a shortfall, in that it swings the plow to the loaded side when relieving but does not return the plow to it's original position on it's own. Not a huge problem but if doing anything with less than perfect drives, can become annoying after a number of bumps. I do farm lanes, one is 900 ft other is 660 ft.
2. Be aware that these plows are "way out front" of your front wheels, requiring a much larger turning radius.
3. The angle of the front plow face to the ground is very important. In gravel, it can dig in if the ground is not very well frozen. If too slight an angle and everything is frozen, it can "ride up" on the snow.
4. I added a 3rd skid shoe at center and rear of the plow to avoid having my SSQA plate ever hitting the ground when plow face is angled to sharply upward. This also makes it stand up better to attach to SSQA plate.
5. I also have a snow blower on the back of mine, (but tires are not loaded), and still the tractor rear end can be forced out of alignment with driveway when plow is loaded up with wet, heavy snow.

Despite all of this, I would do it again as most of the time, it gets the job done going forward, way better than backward snow blowing. Now that I have a bigger tractor, (Kubota M7950DT with cab), hopefully I will be doing all snow work in a heated cab with wipers.

I hope this helps
Bob

8 ft is ok on your machine, and the Landpride plows do have lateral float which is a great feature. You will need weight on the 3 point similar to or greater than your plow weight. I like running chains front and rear, but I'm not running on any pavement.

I run a 9' (108") power angle snow plow on the loader of my 35 HP tractor with no issues. I also run chains on all 4.

Although the dealer didn't quote me a firm price, he indicated it could exceed $3500. It would depend on options like power angle type, snow deflector, hyd. cushion valve, Poly cutting edge, etc.

At that price level it would be worth looking at several brands.
