I'm trying to retro-fit a Honda GX 390 engine with a carburetor fitted w/solenoid. This has been a 5 yr project, mostly on the back burner.
I purchased 2 (at different times) carbs with antibackfire solenoids. These are Chinese products. Neither of the solenoids work properly, in fact they work backwards. When power is applied (ignition on), the plunger/valve extends thus cutting off fuel to the main jet. When power is cut the plunger/valve retracts, opening the port to the jet. Is this not the opposite of the way it should work?
By the way this engine is installed on an American Sportworks utv.
Right out of "the box" fuel has been leaking into the oil sump. There are 2 fuel valves in line. However, cutting off fuel supply on a utv every time the engine is stopped is hardly logical. In the course of the average day I'd have to cut the fuel supply 20 times.
Wrong engine for the application?

The carbs with the fuel solenoids that are working the opposite of what you want are for generators. Generator fuel solenoid type carbs use the power down output to power the solenoid on the carb when the engine is shut off.
