Can anyone tell me where the steering by pass valve is located on a FarmPro 2425? Mine tractor suddenly developed a quirk that requires me to keep turning the wheel to maintain the tractor on a straight path. This tendency is much more pronounced if I am mowing on a grade.

Not quite sure why you're looking for a bypass valve, the problem you're encountering is most likely the seals in the steering controller. It's #30 in this diagram.

Also, check the nuts connecting both ends of the steering cylinder. You may have to peel back a rubber boot to get to the crown nut. See #3 and #11 on this diagram.

Thanks, Greg. I was hoping that it would be easier to get to than the steering controller, but that's just my luck. I really do appreciate the help.

Bleed by in the steering cylinder will cause your problem. I have not seen any problems with the controller itself, so that is good news, easy to get to. These seals can be tested by turning the wheel lock to lock. the wheel should stop at each end of travel. If the cylinder is bypassing, the wheel will keep turning because the oil is going in and then right out of the cylinder.

Your cylinder diagnosis may be correct Chip, but my hydraulic controller had a serious leak between the controller body and the bottom cover plate. Steering control was erratic and inconsistent. Depending upon how much resistance the turning wheels encountered, sometimes it refused to steer at all. That said, the location of the problem was obvious due to the significant amount of hydraulic fluid dripping onto the bell housing. I cut a new bottom seal (gasket) by hand, applied proper torque on the bottom cover bolts, problem fixed.

But you're both right. It's a ***** of a place to get at.

Bluechip you have probably hit it on the head. My steering wheel will not stop turning in either direction. So I think I will have a go at the steering cylinder first. Thanks for your advice.

And if you're not comfortable with repairing the guts of a hydraulic cylinder yourself, the whole thing can be replaced as well.

Ouch:shocked: I think I'd learn how to use the repair kit in a hurry!
