extra long log splitter

in the summer i was in maine on vacation i stopped at a closed jd dealer on a sunday. behind his fence was a 3pt log splitter that looked to take a 3 foot or longer log.then taking the kid to collage i saw a stack of 3+long wood so there's more than one splitter made. i've search the web and all i find is the normal 24/26 inch ones.so does some one else know about these?

IMO I think longer stroke ones are going to become more and more popular with all the OWB's becoming more popular.

But on the other hand, if you have an OWB and it is big enough to need split, it will probabally be a PITA wrestling it onto the splitter.

There must be some 8' splitters too for making all those stack fences

I have a Central Boiler and it will take 4 foot sections in the lower 1/3rd of the fire box.

I find that stuff I cut into 4 foot pieces I want to limit to say 3 inches in diameter or they just get too heavy to be slinging off the wood pile.

My American TMS has a 30 inch ram with an inch and a half to spare at the wedge, (or an inch with the 4 way wedge mounted). I use every bit of the capacity and I hafta say that setting a 24 inch round cut to 30 inches on the splitter pretty much maxes out my personal lifting capacity.

The beauty of the TPH setup is I can drop the rail to the ground and roll a big round on to it. I prefer to have the work table 24 or so inches off the ground for 99% of the splitting work.

The other thing is that 30 inch wood is a pain in the tail to stack on pallats..... you need to "engineer" the stack like a brick layer, to keep it stable at two pieces wide.... I got it down pat though.... after a year or two........

i have a central boiler also.that's where i started thinking about a longer splitter plus if i'd like to split stumps you need more throw
