I didn't buy the new tach. The problem with my factory tach was that the end of the tach cable that plugs into the instrument in the dash hogged out the receiver that it slips into. So, it wouldn't spin the tach properly. I fixed it by putting JB Weld into the receiver in the instrument. Then I put some grease on the end of the tach cable and slipped it into place. I let it dry overnight and then the tach worked fine. I will say that the factory setup for the tack is crappy. The cable has to be tightened just right at the instrument for it to work - otherwise it will over spin the tack needle and maybe even break it off against the stop in the gauge - like it did mine. I fixed that by painting a toothpick bright red and then super glued it to the broken needle in the gauge. It all works fine now. However, I am glad to hear about the electronic tach. If I have any more problems I'll give that a try. Hope this helps.......
