Drift breakers for your snowblower: Yes or No?

I have a B2782A snowblower on my B3030HSDC that is waiting patiently in the garage for first snow! Unlike its owner. While I stew, it occurred to me that my walk behind blower has a drift breaker but I've not seen any on any Kubota blowers. Are they not needed? I don't think it should be too hard to conjure up a design, but if you've made one already, would you share the details?

i made some for mine.we had some five foot drifts last year

The LA 2674 Kubota snow blowers actually have them built into the blower. Look close at picture and you can see that on each side the edges or bow out about two inches, Is that what you mean?

I would think it will handle just about all the snow jobs you will run into. There is a chance that snow will drift up pretty hight, but you will see how nicely the blower handles most snow and even it it is high you can raise the blower slightly with the 3 point hitch and knock off the top of drifts. Here in the woods of NH we don't have drift problems!

My experience has been with tractor mounted blowers when the snow becomes very deep ie 3' plus up to 4' I have not been able to take the entire width of the blower.
So when I have been cutting back 4' drifts I am only using 1 ' of blower width.
It all depends where you live. I have thought about drift cutters but I have not yet installed any yet.

I may have misspoken. I was referring to the vertical knife-like blades attached to one or both sides (ends?) of the blower housing that cut the overhang off when the snow depth is greater than the height of the blower housing. They are common on walk behind blowers and a boon when dealing with drifts or plow berms. Rare to see them on Kubota snowblowers although Deere blowers may have them as standard equip.

Gee I dont know... I know I needed them for my walk behind as I get snow drifts. I am figureing that you can just simply lift your 3 pt to clear the snow up high and then move back and put back on ground. Do you think you will deal with snowfalls or drifts higher then you new blower ?

Hmmmm. The B2782A blower is a front mounted blower, so raising the 3 pt isn't going to help. The blower housing opening is about 20 inches high; your question boils down to do I expect to have snowfalls more than 20" to deal with. I hope not! But the winter's accumulation could easily go above that, as could the highway's plow berm. So, the question is still open, I think.

ok you are right about not being 3pt .. wassnt thinkiing about model numbers, but still, lifting up the blower might just be enough to handle most high snows..
