There is no telling how much money is wasted on those faxes trying to sell you something. Paper and toner/ink/thermal rolls aren't cheap!

I have no warm feelings for telemarketers. Those who prey on the elderly should be restricted 100%. Its like the email spam, a true problem that needs a real solution. Telephone spam involving commercial activities is not freedom of speech.

If you pay for a service you should be able to opt out. A do not call list is long overdue. We also do not support companies who use telemarketers. Bad Business.

Bill, I never got faxes trying to sell me something, but did get several that were supposed to be "surveys", asking my opinion, and wanting me to either call or fax a response to a "900" number. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I wonder how many people fell for that.

...(there will NEVER be 100% participation in the list so there will ALWAYS be someone to bug)...

I got thinking about the ramifications and I started to laugh. How would you like to be the last guy who hasn't signed up?

And then, there will be a certain number of paranoids who will never sign up because they don't want their name on a government list (because someone wearing blue helmets might use it for something nefarious, I suppose); I wonder how they'll cope with all the calls! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Maybe the telemarketers will switch to selling survival kits!

I may be wrong, but I thought that only 27 states has oked a no call list, the others hadn't done it yet. If I got the right information. Then when the other states ok it there would probably be somewhere around or about 50 million more, that might get on it. That is a lot of people, it should mean something.

Does the ruling against the federal list extend to the state lists also?

No.

Some Cell phones have the capabilities to set up profiles.. the profile is a list of phone #'s of people you know.. when that profile is turned on.. only calls from from those people on the list ring the phone.. the rest is dumped to the voice mail. Wish the home phones had this capability.. then you wouldn't have to wait on the no call list!

A right stops when it violates the other's right to not do or have it.
Example:
Their "right" to free speach STOPS when it interferes with my right to privacy. If they continue, they have violated my "civil rights".
If you don't believe it, ask a lawyer that knows constitutional law.
This is one of the basics of the abortion protesters...

Ken, there is at least one device on the way to market that will do just that -- Call Screener, due Fall of this year, for about $100. BTW, I found this through one of the ad links at the bottom of this page - "Six Ways..." There may be others already on the market.
