Do drunk people get hypnotized by flashers?

They should have an arrow effect on the light bar to point which way you should go around. That way you will see from distance that you should change lane.

A lot of them do.. They still hit them. I agree the lights are too bright. I always look away to the opposite lane.. But then again I don't drive drunk. I suspect drunks can't tear their eyes away for all them purty lights, and steer right into them.

I don't know about drunk drivers but extreme flashing lights at night especially if raining, makes it extremely hard to see.

Even when there is no emergency vehicle, just yellow flashers in advance of a traffic light are more detrimental than helpful.

I friend I grew up with is a cop. Numerous times the the department would buy a car and then allow him (and other cops) to pick out and install the lights they want (paid for by the department). I think they had some guidelines but they did have quite a bit of latitude.

I don't think they can go this far.

I don't get it.

I don't either. But as to the op: As somebody, who in his dark past, combined drinking driving and other sundry, nefarious activities, I could be hypnotized by a lot of things. Mostly women. Once drunk, dam near any woman. I once carried on a conversation with a dog. But I digress. I think drunks just hit things because they are drunk. They may not even know they are cops. Maybe its "ooooohhh pretty lights"? Or Wtf?

I had to go around a couple of police cars last night with their lights on, they were so bright I was momentarily blinded passing alongside. I couldn't see anything around the car. They've overdone it with the intensity of the lights so much that now they've become the problem.

I've had this happen. To add insult to injury, when I was able to see them the cops were flailing their arms impatiently because I didn't proceed through the scene as fast as they'd have liked. You can't win.
