Since ammo has been so $hard$ to find the last year+ my buddies and I have resorted to more archery activities vs 'shooting'.
between us, we have a collection of compound and both wood and composite recurve bows, as well as cross bows with composite and various metalic prods. everything from compound to recurve to archaic crossbows )
In this mix, we have wood shaft arrows, wood shaft bolts, carbon fiber arrows and bolts, and aluminum shaft arrows and bolts.
We've notices an affinity for certain materials from different bows. For instance. my wood remington recurve bow loves the thin profile carbon fiber arrows, will work with wood, and hates aluminum.
the 2 archaic cross bows each much prefer wood bolts. we tried matching weight aluminum, or matching length, and neither worked good at all except wood.
the compound bows seem to prefer aluminum or CF , interchangeably. the compound cross bows.. of the 3 we have in the group.. 2 like CF best. and one shoots best with aluminum. the recurve cross bow shoots aluminum best as well.
this is what we came up with as talking points for breakfast and lunch at the range.
overall the alumium weighs more than the CF, though flexes less. the wood flexes the most and seems to suffer accuracy the higher the bow poundage is, with aluminum weighing more than cf on equal bolt or arrow size, and aluminum seemingly performing better onthe higher pound xbows.. though the highest we have a 180#, will shoot CF best strangely enough.
any observations from you arbalests?
