Hi! Not sure if this is permitted, but I’m looking for a Diesel Mechanic in the Midwestern Ontario area (between Guelph and Owen Sound) that might be interested in doing some work on the side. It is a 65HP Turbo compact street sweeper that needs some engine work (pistons/rods) and work on the hydraulics.
It is a V.M.Motori engine (Italian made but owned by Volkswagen I believe) and these engines are used in GM vehicles.
I have shop space- with or without a pit, every tool imaginable, and someone mechanically inclined to assist with the work.
I ‘could’ tow it somewhere, but it’s not running at the moment, so it would be a little more complicated.
I have money invested in this machine, and knew the hydraulics needed some work when I bought it, but it was running fine. I unloaded it at home, the loaded it up to take to a mechanic, so it was started perhaps 4 or 5 times in total - not operated- just started.
A few months later when the mechanic went to start it, there was a loud bang and it quit
. He and a friend managed to get it to turn over manually - so at least it means it didn’t throw a rod through the engine- right?!?!
)
It does need a couple of pistons/rods he said.
I have a parts source in England lined up and the owner is apparently one of the most knowledgeable people about V.M.Motori engines in the U.K.
He has kindly offered to assist via Skype or video messenger if we run into any problems.
The mechanic friend who was supposed to do this for me never seems to get to it- I TOTALLY understand that farmer’s equipment takes precedence- and I’m okay with being bumped down the list…but…he’s had the machine for almost two years now, and I just can’t wait any longer. I need it to be generating some income!!!
I can’t afford to pay shop rates for a mechanic at an equipment business (lack of income from the machine!!
) so I’m looking for somebody that wants some extra work on the side- want to work away at it on weekends or at night, or perhaps somebody that’s retired, or somebody that just enjoys tinkering with engines!!!
I don’t think you can reply personally on this site…but if you’re interested, or know anyone that might be, or have any suggestions about where I could look for a diesel mechanic, I would truly appreciate any input you could offer here!!!
I could REALLY use some help with this…
.
If I could fix it myself or be able to take it to a shop, I would, but I’m just not able to do that at this time. THANKS!!! Patti
