Just wondering if any of you use the fat from your deer(or what ever animal you slaughtered). I've been making my own bird suet for years, just melt the fat down and add some type of bird seed. Most important let the fat cool some before adding seed, unless you like mini popcorn flying all over the place.

Up North they probably stack more on, but down here most of the fat on one is in a layer just under the hide and it pulls off with the hide. Yield of fat verusus time scraping it I would never try it, but the bird food is a good idea!

Pig fat would be easier, but we use a major portion of that to add to the deer meat for sausage and also to help hold the venison burger together. The remainder of the fat would easily be used for such as what you describe.
