While running the bush hog, the PTO output shaft (coming out of the rear diff) broke in half! It didn't strip the splines off, the thing actually broke in half. Shear pin in the bushhog didn't break....Tractor is a 1975 50HP and is a true Hoss. I've got to get this fixed....all my implements are cat 2 and my JD has a cat 1. Has anyone ever repaired a broken PTO output shaft? If it was welded up it would need the splines machined back in. I'm not sure where to look for the needed part. Brown tractors aren't that common in my neck of the woods.
Remind me to post pics this weekend.

John,
I'm not sure, but I think he means the PTO shaft on the tractor itself broke.

You should be able to get David Brown parts from a Case-IH dealer. Case bought out David Brown in the early '70's. I had a '76 990 and it had David Brown and Case on the hood. Got all my filters and parts from the Case dealer. The 990 DB was an excellent tractor.

There is a section, I believe, at www.ytmag.com for David Brown. If my memory is faulty, the Case section talks about them. Should get some help there.

Funny how some hardened metal will crystalize, both rear axles on the IHC 300 broke off, known problem, just the wrong metal. Wonder if the same with your pto shaft.

I believe Elmer is the resident David Brown expert in the Case forum. Shouldn't be a problem getting replacement parts.

Yep, elmer is the DB expert if he is still over there on YTmag.

When you post links by clicking on "URL", the first window that comes up is where you paste the link. The second window is where you name the link. Anything will work as long as it is shorter than the link. By doing it this way, a short link will be produced and the page won't be a doublewide. Thanks and this will help our readers and moderators.
