Dangers of driving backwards

Backing up I did something similar and caught a tiny bit of the front bucket edge (sticks out a tad beyond the edge) on a support pole for my deck. Ripped it right down! Luckily the deck had enough other supports that it didn't collapse!

I live in fear of doing something similar when I am clearing the snow off behind the house so more can slide down off the roof. Our eaves are 4' off the ground with about 16" of overhang for bucket bait.

I have had lots of close calls with FEL, disk, box blade back hoe etc hitting trees, narrowly missing the side of my shop with FEL one time, etc. You name it I have almost hit or hit something. Even with mirrows on both my tractors, I still manage to back into trees. I cant turn my head enough to look behind me due to several fused vertebrae so I have to remember what is behind me when I drive past. I don't always remember.

Amen on the fused vertebrae. Makes backing up pretty tricky at best. A rear vision camera would help, but I doubt that the screen could be seen out in the sun.........

Here's one. ... I pulled under a branch while mowing, then started to back out. Some way the branch caught the hood and lifted it up as I was looking back while backing out. As it lifted the hood, the hood buckled and bent. "Dang it", that heavy metal on my Case 448 never did straighten out quite right.

Backing up with my finish mower on and running this summer I was trying to avoid a tree and my father-in-law. Dang near ran the mower up the guy wire to my electric feed/security light pole. It was in the middle of the two.

I was talking to one of my students last week about plowing snow, and she was saying how much she liked their snowblower attachment. My concern was it would be hard to be looking behind yourself all the time and I would be worried about throwing gravel from the driveway at vehicle or house windows. Then she said she had scraped the FEL bucket all alongside her car while looking behind where she was snow blowing. I think I'll stick with my FEL bucket and the snow blade behind...

I was backing out of my barn, left a foot long crease in a otherwise virgin Kennedy rollaway toolbox.

That toothbar extends the bucket more than I thought, and really is pretty pokey. Also does a number on shins or other body parts if you hit it.
