Yes this is another " what size cutter" thread lol. Ive searched high and low on this site to figure out what size cutter I should go with, but haven't found any good info to make me sway one way or the other. I posted in the Mahindra forum asking what the 4035 owners were using, but haven't had any responses yet. The 4035 is a 40hp tractor, but is rated 33hp at the pto.

This week I will be picking up a new Mahindra 4035(shuttle). Inlcuded in the deal will be a 5' Landpride rotary cutter(RCR1860) and 7' Landpride landscape rake. When I was tractor shopping, one dealer said to stick with a 5' rotary cutter if I was going to be cutting some serious stuff... i.e. brush, vines, trees or anything think. Seemed to make sense to me and I figured the smaller size might help with maneuvering and turning. Ive been dead set on getting the 5' cutter until the dealer, where I will be buying the tractor from, asked why I was getting a 5' and not a 6' cutter. I explain to him my intended use and he said it made sense to go smaller for power reasons. Ever since then I've been wondering if I should jump up to the 6' cutter?

The RCR Line seems to be a very good cutter

Tractor width 74"
RCR1860 width 65"
RCR1872 width 77"

My property has a lot of terrain changes and some tight spots.
I will be mowing grass, weeds, vines, brush and small saplings up to 2"
Might be doing some side work with the bush hog

What do you guys think? This is my first cutter so I appreciate any advice. Thanks

I use 6 ft bush hog on my 4110. Works great for me.

I have a 6ft on my 4025

I use a 6 ft finish mower on my 3616 and can run it in high range full speed(hst) with shorter to medium height grass. The 3616 is 29 HP at the PTO.

My Kioti DK50SE HST-C has 37.5 PTO hp, and it handles my Rhino 172 6-foot cutter just fine. I suspect your 4035 would handle a 6-foot cutter fine too. You might have to slow down a lot on heavier stuff, but that's a good idea anyway if you're cutting brush.

I'm sure your tractor would handle the 5-footer better, but then you won't have a cutting width as wide as your tractor.

You can always cut less than a full swath with a wider cutter. But you can never cut more than a full swath with a narrower one.

I had a 6 foot on my 32 kubota and just kept it when I sold it for the 50hp. It worked "almost" as well on either but unless you are doing heavy stuff all the time it will be fine.

I have both a 5 and 6 ft cutter and I prefer the 6 on my Mahindra 4035 shuttle. I have not had any problem with thick stuff. Good luck hope this helps

I agree 100% with this post. Cutting regular stuff I would want the cutter to cover the width of my tires. Cutting heavy stuff just cut a narrower swath.
