Cub Cadet 3000 series Trans Filter

I need to replace the Trans Filter on my 2003 3000 series Cub Cadet.
I have a hard time paying $20.00 for a new Filter and $14.oo a quart for High Tran fluid.....
Anyone know an auto cross reference for the filter.... and an inexpensive alternative for
the High Tran fluid.

If you have the CC part number for the filter. Just do a Google search "Cub Cadet XXXXXXXX" without quotes. You should get alot of hits from different sources. As for the Tranny fluid. Mine is ordinary motor oil. SAE

use the proper fluid cub cadet recommends, there are posts all over this site of users using other fluids and losing drive power after the fact "yes" $14.00 is a lot for there fluid but it is syn,and a hydro pump is a heck of a lot more....but it is your unit so do what you like....glad

I'm glad you brought this up. And just what does Cub Cadet recommend? Do they recommend a specific weight of oil? My manual recommends "a good grade of SAE 20W50 oil". It does NOT state use ONLY SYNTHETIC oil. I would think on a COMMERCIAL mower the manufacturer would recommend exactly what you need and no less. So by your statement the manufacturer is wrong by not recommending synthetic oil. Or maybe the problems reported where not related to oil but premature mechanical failure.

The filter doesn't need to be changed that often to be that expensive. I've heard of problems caused by the wrong filter. Many are using 20W50 motor oil with no problems. If it calls for Drive System Plus I would use the Mobil 1 synthetic oil. That's what I'm using now.

Like others have said just cross the cub number. Napa might be able to do it for you. I think the fluid is lifetime in those Cubs so you should only need a quart to top it off. I would only use the Cub Drive system plus.

you read my post wrong (have been a cub dealer for over 30yrs so know a little about what i am talking about) i did not post use only syn oil i said that's why it's a little pricey and i tell you i have sold a lot of the 2000,3000 series models with no tranny prob's use what ever oil turn's your crank if it's working for you ,as 94bullitt recommends stick with there oil if you use something else FINE op state's he has a 3000 series not a commercial mower like you use

Big difference in price between motor oil, be it regular or synthetic. Specialty oils are recommended by dealers to put money in their pockets. Sites as this one preaches "do it yourself" and have spun more innovative ways to accomplish the same goal. That is to keep our equipment running for the least amount of funds. We did not read your post wrong. You may have stated it wrong. If you being a dealer should be able to verify that more than just commercial trannies use 20W50 in them. There are only a few manufacturers of hydrostatic drives which many mower brands share. Maybe the OP should go to his dealer and buy relabeled motor oil that says Special transmission Oil for four to five times the price while the dealer smiles and takes his money. I trust a dealer with my machine for about as far as I can pick his up and throw him. With that said. Please spare us the dealer references to backup your credibility. -kid

If you put the correct weight of oil in the tranny, one is not running a risk. Are they?
