who pumps their tank? I need to do mine cause I want to do it. I have owned my home for 10 years and not pumped it in those 10. Not sure when It was done before. my town has no codes for this type stuff, really surprised this many do.

One thing I find fairly humorous is strict regulations on human waste. Zero regulations on farm animals waste.

^^^^^^
While working in Vermont one spring years ago I used to drive past a little ice cream shop on the side of the road surrounded by pasture.
They were spraying the fields all around it with manure- there was literally no barrier, trees, or anything separating the fields from the stand.

Yeah, but we eat (and wear) them and stuff sprayed with their stuff, ya'know, cuz they're 'all natural'. We don't eat us or our stuff. Usually.

It ends up on your neighbors field -

That's exactly right , or on your own field like they do on my back pasture which is no longer used , just mowed once a year. They are allowed to do it for my septic only if enough land area is available .

In Wisconsin they are allowed to "spray" but only after it has been "cooked" to kill any possible bacteria (very high pH levels). Otherwise they have to knife it in and there are limits to that.

Seems more of nanny state BS. Every year is ridiculous. Being forced to have the system checked (outside of a sale) at all is ridiculous.

If it passes the standards at time of install, that should cbe all the government intrusion. After that it is the owners responsibility. If you as the owner want to pump/inspect every year, great. If you want to wait 5 years, great.

Sorry to hear you got the letter. Would not make me happy in the least.
it's like an emissions inspection for your car/truck, they want to make sure the emissions are within set limits. a septic system can put out pollutants of the water kind..

That is not the same thing at all.

The CDC already has strict rules mandated on septic and leach field installation to be sure it cannot interfere with water supplies. That is done at install time. After that, having your tank mandatory-pumped has nothing to do with polluting. Do you know what happens if you never pump your tank? If it fills to capacity? It backs up and fill your house with *****. It doesn't suddenly start "polluting" anymore than a septic is supposed to.

Emissions on a vehicle pollute everyone....not just affecting you the owner as would a backed up septic tank. That is how they can get away with it with vehicles.

This is a money grab pure and simple. Just like seat belt and helmet laws. If all that can happen is you hurt yourself, the government has no business in it.

There is a big difference in protecting people from others and trying to protect at the force of a gun people from themselves. Absolute nanny=state apologist nonsense.

The biggest difference is that we have some control over what happens to what we emit, yet some people don't give a rat's behind.
Years ago I was working on a property line near a major lake which also is the border between us and Canada. Some idjit had built his outhouse over a stream which feeds into the above mentioned salmon lake, so that he didn't have to shovel out his *.*.
I do believe that what the OP describes is government overreach; yet it's the actions of some of those among us who enable said government to justify their actions.
I have never seen a bureaucracy which couldn't rationalize passing more laws or spending more money.

It is all about the money. Just a thinly veiled tax.
