That type of stuff is typically used in special applications. An example may be a new foundation on the site of a chemical plant where there is known ground water contamination from years of prior spills. Places that have been populated and industrialized for a long time are typical candidates, since pollution control is a relatively new novel concept... Any of the old industrial zones in our large cities and major cities in Europe would qualify, particularly if ground water movement is slow (clay soils).

If you make the mistake of putting regular steel in those kinds of applications, you will have a short life with a lot of interim maintenance.

That's a very fine example of Prokop's first law: Every dumb decision or action has at least one valid reason.:D

What about fiber fill? Anybody know the ins and outs about its effect when used with rebar. Do you get more durability [esp in terms of impact and chip resistance] than with rebar alone. Is there any downside other than cost?
Thanks, larry

I've often wondered that myself. Don't know.

But that also brings to mind that rebar is avail in fiberglass too (for corrosion resistance). And.......carbon fiber (for high strength, think military aircraft)!
