Hi,

I want to buy a compost bin that will keep out roaches etc, as opposed to an open bin made of pallets for example.

Our household generates a reasonable amount of waste - vegetable and fruit peels, some egg shells, and maybe some fruit and vegetable which are going bad.

Currently I have been throwing this waste around my property, for example on the lawn or on flower beds, but it is attracting a lot of roaches and some other bugs.

Can you please recommend me a good compost bin which is sealed and I can turn around.

Thank you

It can't be "sealed" because you need oxygen and moisture to compost. Have you considered buying or building one of the rotating compost makers?

Hello KennyG

Yes I think the rotating compost maker is what would suit me well. I am not sure I can build one...I will look into that

However I don't mind buying one, I see so many options online, any advice on a good brand/size?

Thank you

I wouldn't buy one - they seem overpriced. All kinds of examples on line to build them with very little skill or tools required. Probably less than $25.

We've had both the Compost tumbler and Mantis twin. The build itself is quite similar. When we moved rural, we kept the twin so we must have liked that one better. You can do each bin in separate stages. Larger piles do make more heat though. They take some effort to crank. Don't buy the screens.

You can't improve on mother nature. Had a rectangular plastic one with a nice lid and a tumbler. Both ended up as freebies at a garage sale and the pile with sidewalls remains.

What you are asking is akin to asking people to recommend which shoes to buy, there is no logical answer because preferances are so varied. Most of us that have stayed with composting for several years think in terms of recycling so usually build or improvise using what's on hand. Any way you do it is better than scattering on the surface. I suggest browsing gardening forums to see the various ways people compost to see which fit's your need. There is a busy composting forum at "houzz",take a look.
