A couple months ago I recieved a call from CNH Capital stating I was late on a payment. I made 2 payments that month and they applied the 2nd as principal even though a payment coupon was sent with the payment. They called today stating I was late again by almost 30 days. 31th day they report it to the credit bureau. I made two payment last month and they were both logged as principal even though the payment coupons were with each payment and no entry was made on the coupons by me to have it go towards principal. The gal from CNH was unwilling to convert them back to a monthly payment and said if I didn't make a payment today it will be reported to the credit bureau. Should be pretty easy to guess what I had to say about that. LOL I then asked to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor was very helpful and apologized for the errors and made to correction to my account. I then told him I WILL NOT tolerate another rude phone call such as I recieved today and if CNH does this again I will file a complaint with our state AG's office. I then went on to tell him if they ever put a mark on my credit because of their screwed up accounting system I will file a suit against CNH.

My point for this thread is to warn others that if they are making extra payments to CNH to make sure that they are being applied correctly.

That's good to know. I think I would have pushed for a free tractor to ameliorate my feelings after the call. :)

Unfortunately it is not only CNH capital that does that.. it is -everybody-.

A while back i got a letter from my mortgage provider ( one of the banks I bank at. Amsouth ).. they stated that I needed to make an escrow payment as there would be a shortfall that upcoming year due to a difference in actual property tax and insurance and what they had calculated.. they included a payment coupon for me to make a lump sum payment, or if i elected, i could simply do nothing and they would just adjust my monthly payment amount up about 60$ a month and make up for it that way. No problem. I cut the check and mail their special coupon in the next day, in their pre-addressed and pre printed envelope.

next month rolls along and lo and behold my monthly payment was up by about 55$.. I went down to my local branch with my photocopy of my check and coupon in hand, and sure enough.. the mortgage dept had entered my payment as a principle transaction.. not an escrow payment.

I had some choice words with the branch manager. They were appologetic and happy enough to fix it.. however i let them know in no uncertain terms that if their bank pulle dthis again, I was contacting any and every gov't agency that deals in this sort of oversite.

I think it is the cheap sweatshop (telemarket style) non HS graduate workers they hire that do the encoding of the payments. besides the fact that if you call the online banking center you either get a computer.. or a non-english speaker.. who won't do anything for you anyway.

Soundguy I had a friend , a high school graduate who rose to be a VP at a large bank. He told me one time when banks started having big problems was when they hired COLLEGE GRADUATES. He advised a large percentage of his time was spent straightening out a mess one of the educated wonders made of a customers account.

So, we might be better off if they hired non high school graduates.

In any vocation, a degree does not equal common sense in the world.

True, unfortunately. Many years ago, I had a house mortgaged at my credit union, and I had set it up for them to just withdraw the payment each month from my checking account; automatic payment so no envelope or check to lose, can't get fouled up, right? Then one day I received a computer generated postcard in the mail, saying that I'm delinquent in payments. I called to ask how that can be and was told to ignore the postcard; that it was a "computer error." A month or so later, I get a letter saying that the problem is that the payment was not large enough for the escrow to cover the taxes and insurance, so instead of telling me that, they simply paid the taxes and insurance, applied a little to the interest, and increased the principle balance. So I went to visit in person, paid more than what would have been two months of payments to get back to the original amoritization chart, and then told them to increase the payments enough to be sure to have a sufficient amount to cover the taxes and interest the next year. Very simple math, I thought. But that young man, even with his calculator, could not figure how much to make the payments. I finally just told him how much payment I'd make in the future and how much to apply to what.

Now of course, the worst part is that if I had paid attention to the amounts paid for insurance and taxes, I should have caught the problem myself long before that first computer generated postcard came.

Seems there was a thread about the CNH Capital problem a year or so ago.

Same complaint...checks and payment stubs being sent to CNH on time, but folks were getting notices and calls saying they were delinquent in their payments.

I too had the same problem a couple of times, even though my check was deposited before the "grace period" ended.

Not sure how they handle their checks...could be a 3rd party processes the checks and not CNH. I notice there's a PO box (or lockbox) where payments are sent. If CNH is given the wrong information by a 3rd party...well, time to let CNH know they have a problem.

Again...the 3rd party processing is only conjecture on my part. It would be interesting to find out.

I second the idea for the free tractor. If one more member agrees then you get the free rig. ;)

I think a free tractor is in order too, so it's gotta be! By the way, I think I found out what happened to common sense, someone sent this to me today:

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who
has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was
since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as
knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the
worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more
than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children,
are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but
overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year- old
boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens
suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher
fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the
job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.
It declined even further when schools were required to get parental
consent to administer Panadol, sun lotion or a Band Aid to a student -
but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and
wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became
contraband, churches became businesses, and criminals received better
treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a
burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live after a woman failed to
realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in
her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his
wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.
He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, Someone Else is
to Blame, and I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

I'm not so sure. At my day job, I have to screen applicants, and then assign jobs based on skills when I do make a hire. Unfortunately, 80% of my applicants have not completed HS.. some not even middle school. About 50% do not have a drivers license due to either 75% dui / 25 non due infractions. About 10% have had their license revoked for 10ys or are permanently revoked. let see.. About 50% are on probation, work or early release, house arrest or some other type of community control. And only about 20% of them can spell simple 3 letter words. I looked at an application the other day.. in the 'position desired' blank, they wrote 'eny' for 'any'.

Lets see.. speaking of spelling.. we have had 2 applicants that are iliterate 100% can't read or write.

About 50% of our applicants fail a mandatory drug prescreen.

In the end.. when i do make a hire... I usually have to put them on a shovel, rake or other man powered hand held tool. Our insurance carrier won't let anyone with 2 traffic tickets or a dui withing the last 5ys operate a company vehicle. If they have a current dui, the ins company doesn't even want them driving heavy equipment. I have to go thru about 10 applicants before I get one that can actually drive themselves to work (legally).. drive one of our vehicles out to the jobsite, and then operate a piece of heavy equipment. Of course.. he has a truck full of 'other' non driving shovel weilding workers with him.. I.E. If I get a HS graduate that can read and write, has a clean driving record, passes a drug test, and can fill out the most basic paperwork.. they are almost guaranteed to be a crew foreman.. if not a jobsite supervisor ( if they last a couple months.. )

Tabulating this comedy down, it almost always works out that the lower the level of education of the applicant, the more issues such as i mentioned are present. There are a few that buck the odds and are really well educated idiots..

My BS meter is so well tuned after doing 13ys of HR in our office that I can size up an applicant as soon as they walk in and say hello.

It is to the point that we (office staff ) make bets on who will get hired, who will fail drug tests, how long the applicant will last, etc... So far.. no one bets against me as I'm in the high 90's percentile on all counts. There have been years where I was at 100% for the year...

I'll stick with the HS graduates... that and 5$ will get you a starbucks coffee... Most of the people who walk in for jobs don't even really want to work anyway...
