My 2005 CK30HST has only 38 hours now. It has been parked for 2-3 month intervals inside during the winter. The battery looked beautiful on late falls inspection, however I fully expected it to die prematurely from sitting. My storage container at the rec. property does not have AC voltage yet to use a trickle charger.
During Memorial weekend '06 visit, the glow plug cycle did its thing and the engine wouldn't crank---the relays would click however.
I have wanted an excuse to install an Optima battery so I ran to town and got one to eliminate the acid disease. I was surprised the Kirkland/ Costco battery leaked/boiled some acid and trashed the positive cable which began a bit of rust on the battery tray. I neutralized and cleaned area, installed new Optima battery and still no crank.
With my limited tools at the property I used a piece of wire to jump the starter B+ connection to the solenoid and it cranked.
I traced the relay to being the one under the hood on the firewall right side. I jumped the two larger guage starter wires at the relay and it cranked.
I figured no juice was energizing relay.
I poked around ignition switch and learned if I turned switch like usual and let it back some it would crank and start.
My dealer is too far to hassle with returning the whole tractor and I don't have a trailer for my rig, so I am seeing if they will send me a warranty swich to install and I can send the bum one back. I looks like an easy replacement.
If they MUST have the tractor for warranty consideration, I will just buy a switch and put it in---I'll post the result of the transaction.
Hope this helps somebody else.
If you're stuck with a no crank, try letting the switch back a bit and see if you can get back to the barn.
