CD ( Certificate of Deposit ) Rates...????

Like " oldballs" posted...I have actually heard some banks are charging for deposits....can you imagine such a thing ????

And oddly enough (to me, at least) is that the credit union is only paying 0.25% on savings accounts, while they pay 0.401% on checking accounts with a minimum balance of $2,000. But at least they don't charge anything for checking accounts, deposits, and such.

I nearly gave up on my savings and checking making any interest, in the 90's I had 60% of my $ in CDs, from last 7 years I moved most of that all out of CDs into the market with a good bit invested into high yielding Dividend payers. Utilities and big businesses that pay me from 2.5% to over 6% and then peculated in stocks which over the last 6~7 years I'm up 60 and 62% in two accounts, heck of a lot better than interest of .012% on the $ I have in checking!

I used to keep 75% of my assets in long term CDs with the remainder in rental property and a small saving account. When my last 2 CDs came up for renewal at 4% less than what I was getting, I cashed them in and put one in a checking account that pays 1% and used the other one to buy some investment property and buy some stocks.

I have doubled my money in the stock market this year but that is because it is an extremely good year for stocks. If I don't watch out I could lose my entire profit in a couple of days when it starts declining.

I have 2 more long term ones that will renew in November and I have not decided what to do with them yet but at my age a lot of it will go into fulfilling my bucket list.

The good news is I cashed in some CD's before maturing for a major purchase and the penalty was very small!
Money is only valuable if you are borrowing it!
