Interesting article here released today, Cats Kill Billions of Animals a Year | LiveScience. You can also Google it.

I knew there was a reason I didn't care for cats to much, but if this is true, then I have a "prudent" reason. Of course most of the offending felines seemd to be the huge population of feral cats in this nation.

I dont hate cats per se, just never saw the benefit, but the ones I have had always seemed to bring back baby rabbits and I'd rather watch the bunnies in my yard.

I saw something about killing 2.7 billion birds, iirc, didn't read the article, only the headline. We've had some cool cats over the years, but are definitely dog people.

Come to think of it, we've probably provided a "smorgasbord" with the bird feeders, at times. Just daammn.

We have tons of feeders too, and it attracts several of the neighbors cats who while not supposed to be running free clearly are.
I have found that a well placed, very low velocity bb placed accurately on rump of said cat is a highly efficient deterrent.

A feral cat is nothing less than a tiny mountain lion.

I'm not a good enough shot.

With the amount or cat food we buy it is nice to know it is less than it would be if they did not go hunting for desert.

Yeah, but dessert is often left at the front door. They're so proud. :D

the worst part is when they just leave what's left, there's some organ they don't eat. Gross, clean that up off your concrete step or deck after it's soaked in for the night.

I started to post a link to this myself...
There is no strain of domesticated cats (including all feral) that are native to the United States...they are a scourge on American wildlife...

If you are an "outside" cat owner I urge you to put collars on the animals with at least two tones of bells attached to said collars...

It is irresponsible cat owners that are responsible for this travesty of American wildlife/nature...

feral and (un-belled) cats in America are far worse than any other alien animal or plant species that endanger native flora and fauna....

Just feed them every 3 days. :)

When I was a kid we would put out milk when we had cows but we did not buy cat food or dog food but they made it off of scraps and their hunting skills I guess. Never though about it at the time.

I wish mine would leave his catch at the door. He brings them inside.

Wife and DIL totally freaked out the day my cat brought a live snake in:rotfl:

How do ya really feel, pine?

Like I've said, we've had a few cats, and loved 'em. Two were "inside" cats (declawed, etc). One was an outside cat (Jackie, a calico), but she really spent most of her time inside, it's just that she could survive outside. Great pet, she "escaped" out of her cage when swmbo was taking her to the vet...the "carry" door popped open in the vet's parking lot...poof!...gone! (plenty of dogs around).

I won't go into what the mrs. did to try and find the frkn thing, but it was a bit heart-wrenching.

That being said....I hate everyoneelse's cats. Keep the fvk away from my birds!!!

We have a couple of cats that have showed up, adopted us and became our "Barn Cats" (Barney and "Miss Kitty" respectibly). Their job is to endanger the life and well being of any critters that want to eat the $$$$ grain in the barn or any birds who want to make messes on the hay in the hayloft and they are very good at their jobs...

that must have been seriously funny, probably a little garter snake
but most of us don't know one snake well enough from another, and
just about all of us don't want them in our house for sure.
