Hey,

I am going to be looking at a Cat 242B that had a wiring harness fire. The damage is mostly in the cockpit. The joysticks were not damaged, but the seat and overhead gauges were. It also will need a new radiator and cooling fan. I am not that familiar to skid steers in general, but from what I have read these are great machines. I had been looking at getting a tractor to use on my 20 acres, but could the Cat with some new wiring and a thorough clean up be the better option? The machine has less than 500 hours. Thoughts...

Thanks,
Rowdy

I don't know much about that particular model of CAT. But, as a general rule, CAT makes good equipment and this could be a "diamond in the rough".

For starters, it sounds like you've got enough info regarding the damages that you might want to spend some time with a CAT dealer to pencil out the likely repair/replacement costs to get the machine back in business.

They might also be a good source for a price estimate for that particular skid-steer in good operating condition - given the year/model and hours, etc.

With those two numbers; it's a case of adding and subtracting, depending upon the asking price for the damaged SS.

Best of luck.
