can tel ford truck number from vin ???

I have at work, what i THINK is a 84 ( late 83 manf date ) ford 8000 that is now a water truck.

All the id emblems on the hood that would id truck type.. IE.. ford 8000 are either worn or missing. Vin is intact and data and title plate just say ford truck.


Need to get a windshield installed for her to pass the vehicle inspection.. current one is spiderwebbed and I'm sure not legal.. ... any ideas?

I would say call Art Walker, but I kinda doubt any of his trucks are that New.

Why not just call an auto glass company? I have found that they can install it cheaper than I can buy the glass...

Don't have an instant sol'n, but I'd try a general inquiry with Ford corporate (x class truck, VIN = alkfdjalkdsjf, desperately seeking Susan, er, Model #). Sounds like a Herculean task, but sometimes big companies can be surprisingly responsive.

(I remember picking up the phone and blindly calling Matsushita Canada, about a specialized capacitor requirement. The lady that answered the phone said "For, that you need to talk to Hani" - AND, she was right ! To this day, I'm still impressed).

If you are not changing the windshield yourself, my experience with glass-guys is there is usually only about 1 in a given geography who is consistently good when it comes to older/custom stuff. "The guy" that I tracked down around here even charges pretty reasonably, while still doing meticulous work. Doesn't sound like the truck is going to a Concours , but I've always found that once you find "The Guy", you get the work done right the first time, at around the same money that the rest charge.

"The Guy" will probably know the model off the top of his head. Alternately, I'd throw a good set of pics into Trailers and Transportation and ask there - if you don't want to post the VIN publicly, feed it to knowledgable responders if/as needed.

Let us know the model, once you find out.

None of us contractors run new heavy trucks. This one is actually good looking.

We used to work with art now and then. he's tough to work with though.

Check with local (old) car clubs or independent rodders you know - they will know who The Guy is to goto for glass. Kustom glass is custom glass..... many of these guys will keep busy doing old heavy equipment, unless they are swamped with Kustom work.

82 and newer should have a 17 digit vin, 5th digit is the model, 8th is engine size, 10th digit is the year.

Ford fleet services has a websight, just enter the vin. I dont think you need a password to access this feature, if you do, pm me and I will try to remember my password.

I found this never used it and didn't try it, so your on your own here. You probably already tried this......
