I'm shopping for a Kubota Grand L6060 but don't know how to outfit it with options. This tractor will manage about 80 acres, with 60 forested acres and 20 acres of level to moderately sloped pasture to mow. I need to mow the 20 acres a few times a year to keep weeds and fire danger down. There will be some up/down and side slope while mowing, but not bad. I think my small Massey SCUT could do all of it without fear of tipping-- if I am careful to only do the steeper slopes up/down, and not side to side. Farming could happen in the future, but it would be limited in scope and it would be years out.
Although expensive, I will get a cab model with air ride seat. Just too hot and sunny in summer, and bones too old to not do that. I know I need to be careful with a cab model in the woods. If there is anything too tight, I can use my Massey SCUT instead. I don't think I will need the cab defoggers since most of my bad weather work will be in the heat of summer, not cold of winter.
There is an existing 6' bushhog at the property, along with some other implements. I will purchase a loader for sure, with SSQA. Not sure about the round back versus square back bucket? I will also purchase a grapple and Wallenstein skidding winch. Since I will have a grapple, it seems I do not need to spend the extra money for a 4 in 1 bucket? The grapple and winch will let me do some cleanup of logs on the property, plus produce some firewood in future years. My driveway is 1/4 mile long, well compacted but dirt, and I need to occasionally remove snow from it. I think the bucket will do that OK, and I don't think I need a snowblower since we don't get that much snow. I have a 4 wheel drive vehicle so I only need to remove enough snow for clearance. I do not need a completely clean driveway.
I would like a backhoe, but since I have a small backhoe on the Massey SCUT I don't think I can justify the expense of getting a second one, even though it would be much, much more capable.
There are many options for the L6060 I don't understand. For example, how many rear hydraulic valves should I get? What type? With the grapple, do I need three valves with the front loader? How about the various transmission options? I will ask these questions at the dealership, but am hoping to get some feedback from actual owners/operators before I go kick tires. And I am curious about which features and options on your tractor you frequently use, or any features or options you wish you would have purchased?
Thanks for any feedback or assistance, including any negotiating tips on how to handle the sales process!
