Been watching the discussions on the Flails and have been looking for one for about 6 months. We even drove over to Duluth MN last week to look at one but it was in real bad shape.

So I was checking our local dealership "Titan" and they showed up with one in Fargo. Called about it and it was a one owner, but it has been kept in a heated shop it's whole life. Went down and looked at it and got it for a good price, the only thing it needs is a pair of belts, they ran it for us and it runs perfect, checked it over better today, the flails are the original except a couple that have been replaced.

The guy who traded it in only did the driveway and around the farm so it looks in great shape. We were hoping to pick up something less expensive but I think in the long run being it was so well taken care of and we don't have to work on it we got a pretty good deal.

I will put a new set of blades on it next year but I'm just going to dress them a little for now. They look like they have never been turned around so I could do that for this year and think about changing them out later.

This one is a 8' with a 75 hp gearbox, says it's good for 30hp and up. I'm going to mainly run in on the DX60.

Nice flail.

I agree with your view that you can spend more $$$ fixing a beat-up implement than your time is worth.

Nice. I think thats about the newest looking used flail I've seen. :licking:

Very clean unit. Does it have finish or rough cut flails (hammers)?

Try cutting with it a few times before getting too enthusiastic about replacing the cutters. They last a long time and do a great job until almost completely destroyed.

I know the feeling when getting a used piece of equipment that you want to restore it to new condition. It may be just fine the way it is for several years to come.

Morning,

It came with the heavy duty knifes on it, there are a couple that I'll have to change on it, looking on line none of my local JD dealers have the stuff in stock. Is the overlap on the blades pretty good? As you can see in that one photo I've got a couple short knifes.

I can't hook it up with my quick hitch, had to drop it and hook it up manually, no big deal because it will stay on the DX60 in the summer.

I got to craw under it yesterday and give it a good inspection, everything looks pretty good, I did have to order a couple new belts...$120 each, and I see three knifes that I'll have to change, the others look like I can turn them around and they will be fine.

I'm going to clean them up today and run it like it is and see how it does, I'll change the lube and grease her up also. I hope things will be dry enough this weekend to give her a run. I'll post up a couple photos, I've got to run her on the T2220 as the DX60 is in the shop.

I've a question for you guys on the knifes, I'm looking at flail master and there stuff is about 1/2 price compared to John Deere, is the knifes you guys are getting as good and stand up pretty good??

We paid $2900 for it, looking at Machine Finder for John Deere we paid a couple hundred more than the ones listed but this one looked a lot better taken care of.

Belts and knives from flail master that I have bought have been very good quality. Ask for Nicole, she is one smart lady and can answer all your questions.

Flail Master has worked for me as well. Good prices and the parts seem to be of acceptable quality.

I had a tough time finding 7 or 8' flails that had the min. HP requirements that worked with my tractor (50). I didn't look at JD. Nice find.

I bought a used 6' Mott with a bad gearbox for 200 dollars. It also came with a new set of rings and cutters. I found a 1 to 1 1/2 gear box for 25 dollars, added new grease seals, belts, shields. Roller bearings were like new. it was owned by a school district and they forgot to check the oil level. It should be ready to roll shortly. If I don't like the way it cuts I should be able to resell it for what I have in it.
