Doofy, praying for you and JimBrown that you both may have speedy recoveries.

Prayers for you too, Jimbrown. Hope for a speedy and complete recovery. Darn, I didn't get the sexy scar...they went up through my nose.

So the others may learn and look out for warning signs, do you mind telling us a little more detail about how you noticed something was wrong? I know you said peripheral vision. How did it effect your vision and was there anything else, such as pain, etc? If you do not want to get into that detail, I fully understand.

Mine was a 4cm tumor completely covering the pituitary gland. My peripheral vision was becoming very fuzzy and was closing in, almost like tunnel vision. ED was a problem too but that was attributed to an enlarged prostate. Baloney! All they would have needed to do was check testosterone levels to know the pituitary was failing. This symptom began 5-6 years ago. Never any headaches or anything though. Eye Doctor suspected tumor and MRI confirmed. Neurosurgeon said the tumor had been growing for years and years.

Testosterone levels can indicate pituitary failure. Good to know. I have always had good health so I am amazed at correlations like this.

The MRI showed the tumor was pressing the optic nerves up against the bottom of my brain and the bow and distortion of those nerves are apparently what causes the distortion and loss of peripheral vision.

Testosterone readings usually run 300 ng/dl of blood and up. My first test was 188 ng/dl before surgery and down to 14 ng/dl after surgery. Any reading below 300 signals LowT and should be checked out by a real doctor.

Some of my other symptoms included muscle pain and weakness. Arm and leg muscle pain was keeping me awake at night and since surgery and now being on thyroid and testosterone meds...pain is gone and muscles are rebuilding themselves.

Bottom line: If you don't feel normal, go see a competent health provider or specialist. Don't jack around for years, like I did. I thought it was old age (68) ailments. NOT!

Pituitary, thyroid, test tickles all work in concert to make testosterone and a multitude of other hormones. I would encourage anyone with health problems that are having trouble getting a diagnosis to see an Endocrinologist and get some blood work done. Simple blood tests can tell a lot about your health.

Glad those that had surgery are recovering.
Doofy, been though all the above test. The things that sent me to Endocrinologist was low testosterone and ringing in right ear. Still have both. But original growth seen in first MRI has gone away. Due for another MRI in December. Low testosterone was caused by complications from 2 groin hernia surgeries.

Prayers and best wish for complete recovery from your surgery.

That is encouraging when the MRI is clear. Will send prayers your way.
