We've decided we're selling our place due to my new job being 70 miles away. I've been commuting about 53 miles (one way) for the last 5 years so gas has been eating my account for sure. So, after a bunch of crazy thoughts, we have decided to move to the city of my new job. I know I'll be kicking myself in the rear end the minute we sell (if the Lord brings us a buyer). I'm lucky that I'm not in a hurry. My oldest kid won't start kindergarten for another year. Right now, I'll need the tractors and some implements until the place sells but keep your eyes on the classifieds for the following: JD 350 sickle bar 9'; 4 shank Hay-King pasture renovator; bush hog post hole digger w/9" and 12" augers; 6' Tufline box blade; Tractor supply sub soiler. I plan on offering these items here to my tractor buddies prior to listing elsewhere.

The sad thing is that homes in the college town we're moving to are very pricey. Not apparently affected by this economy. The only good things are that the interest rates are down and I have a job for now.

I'm not too sure about anything except I don't look forward to moving all my stuff.

PS, if anyone is interested in 25 acres that looks like a park, PM me...

Man that is a tuff decision. Sometimes in life we know we are making the right decision for our family at the time but we want to be able and keep things the way that they are.

I wish I was in a better position to buy a place like that. I love that area of the state and it would be an excuse to get even futher out of the big H.

College towns are not that bad, at least they have a steady economy driven by influx of students. If you are moving to the Bryan/College Station area at least it is still a some what rural area with a great ag industry. If you are moving to the Austin area then I really feel your pain.

Sorry to hear that you are selling. Your place is a great place to raise your kids.

Glad to hear you have a job and don't have to hurry. I can certainly understand your reluctance to move back to town. I had to sell our 10 acres with barn, workshop, tractor, garden, etc. to move back to town about 6.5 years ago for family reasons. Good luck on the house hunting.

So why are you moving back? Is it really to save gas money? time to be home with family? There must be some big reason other than 17 little miles out there on the wide open Texas highways.

That is a bummer. I commute 50 miles each way to work now and did switch vehicles about 2 years ago to cut the cost. It really made a difference.

I've switched cars already. I want my 2 hours a day to spend time with my family.

Vernon, I'm heading in your direction.

I bought another car 3yrs ago to save on gas. Went from 20mpg to about 42mpg. I drive about 30,000 miles/year. It helps the wallet but the time is still a factor. You are the one who knows your situation the best. I can't even imagine having to battle with that decision. But. As Bird said: It's good that you have a job and are in no hurry.

I have about a 35-37 mile one way trip to work. Current prices that means about $150 a month in fuel costs. It was really hurting when diesel was 4.50 a gallon.:rolleyes:

Time wise it takes me 15 extra minutes worse case to get to our home in the country vs the old city house. Going to the city house I would leave work at 4:30 or 6:00. No point in leaving in between those times since you just sat in traffic. Now I can leave when I want and not really care too much about traffic. Average time to get to the house in the country vs city was/is 45ish minutes. City driving is much more stressful compared to the country drive.

One of our requirements for buying land was that it was no more than 60 minutes from work. Two hours a day is a long time. I figure I'm stuck with 45 minute drives to get a decently priced and nice house near work.

I would HATE having to move back to the city. But I want say we would never do it. Ya gots to be able to pay the bills and live. I don't like being in the truck driving but its not stressful for the most part and if I lived in the city the drive is going to cost me the same in money and time plus the added stress.

Hate to hear you have to move back. But ya gotta do what ya gotta do. And at least you were able to live the dream for a while. Better to have lived the dream than only having the dream.

Later,
Dan
