best tire set up for mud?

right now I have turfs on my BX and they are worthless once they are covered by mud. Would chains over the turfs be better than R4s? or are they all a waste of time until it is dry outside?

Since you have a BX, I assume you use it primarily for mowing.

That said, I'd give the chains a try, because they are cheaper than new tires, and easy to take off when you mow, as to not tear up the yard.

With the small size of the tires on the BX, r-4's would be better than turfs, but they will still plug up easially, you'll just have dug in a little deeper before they plug.

Go with the chains that is a much cheaper solution and very versatile. I recently changed from turf to R4 for a different reason and am happy I did. BUT. In mud it makes little difference. If the tires spin the R4 or Ag tires will have more traction but also dig a deep rut/hole much much faster then turfs. If you chain up the turfs it will help you out a lot. I had chains for my turfs. You must be aware of the fact that once the chained up tires start spinning in the mud you can get the tractor buried quickly and very effectively. Have a plan "B" for getting out.
PS: It is best to wait til things dry up a little. That is what I do.

I actually don't mow with it but I have turfs for the other stuff I do on the grass. It has rained non stop here and the mud has made my tractor worthless. I got it stuck yesterday to the point that it was tipped halfway over. If not for the backhoe it would still be out there! I don't know if I want a B2620 or a Skid steer with tracks!
