Anyone here have trouble with beavers ?
If so, how/ what did you do to keep them at bay ?

No trouble here.

Mind you, I've got a special rock (bought online from a 'Certified' African Witch Doctor) that keeps tigers away... It really works as I haven't seen one tiger since I got it. Maybe it works for beavers too. (y)

I am thinking there hasn't been a Tasmanian tiger on your island for almost 100 years has there?

The last thylacine (Tassie Tiger) died in captivity in 1933.

Still, you never know if there's any 'out there'. Tasmania's very rugged, shall we say.

I have a family of beavers down on the far end of my lake. They are very beneficial. They have built and maintain a low dam at the outlet. It maintains a constant water level in the lake.

The most successful method of elimination. Trapping and relocation. Check with your state Fish and Game Department. Sometimes they will have a program to do this. If not - they may be aware of a private company that will provide this service.

I had an issue a couple years ago. Always new "some" were around but within the span of a year, I saw trees coming down at an accelerated rate. I only visit my cabin on weekends. It was incredible to see the destruction week by week. Not just the dropped trees, but all the trees they would girdle and let stand. It was fascinating to see, I think I could almost see the logic as they moved around my pond. Near impossible to ever see them. The damage they did to the banks was incredible too. Didn't realize their burrowing capabilities at the ponds edge, trenching channels under the banks. I fell through a couple of times walking around the pond. Joined a Facebook trapping forum and started researching. Trapped 7 beavers in a short period of time. What's interesting since this all happened, I spent more time looking for "runs" the beavers were moving through to set traps. I walked areas, I hadn't walked before. Found lots of beaver skulls, smaller ones. I'm thinking coyotes may have been keeping them at bay, and perhaps I have fewer coyotes now, and the beavers took off. I will keep a watchful eye on beaver damage from this point forward. It was a mess for me. Just had another deeply girdled tree go down that was easily 24" in diameter. They've left me lots of death traps.

I tell the Mitsubishi-Satoh beaver, You are not playing nice today. I'll park you and use the Yanmar instead.

Only well behaved beavers here.

The beaver family can not cause bank damage on my lake. Not unless they develop carbide/tungsten teeth. Where the water meets the basaltic lava cliffs - along both side of the lake - water depth is 40 to 45 feet. It's 80 feet deep right down the center. The view off my front porch.

Just spitballing here but what constitutes something as “damaged” and a “nuisance”when it’s local wildlife in their natural habitat?
