Here I live commuter train is very popular if you work in Oslo, as mentioned cars are all most hopeless to use in the inner city, it takes an hour on the train. But if you work else were 1 to 1,5h in a car is quite normal commuting, bicycle is also very common for short commuting in the warm seasons, but many cycles all year round. Many places there are pedestrian and bicycle roads that makes it safe.

Longer drive-time than I would have guessed.

I like separate bicycle paths (both as a bicyclist, and car-driver).

Using 2 to 3h in the car every day is more than enough, not to much left of the day after a normal 8h workday, hvat is considered acceptable commuting time in US?

Around major US or Canadian cities, I'd say yes. Between slow traffic and people trying/needing to find cheaper real estate, 1.5 hours can get chewed up fast.

Exceptions on both ends..... some people work from home primarily (even before Covid), and some people commute extremely long distances.

I read an article on the Fox news site the other day that said Nissan is trying to create a market for carbon fiber reenforced plastics in an effort to stay a float. I haven't kept up with the market but know that in the Americas Cup yacht world back in the '90s carbon fiber masts were the latest and greatest but terribly expensive.

Nissan to bring carbon fiber-reinforced plastic to mainstream cars

Nissan Announces 'Breakthrough' in Carbon Fiber Production - The Truth About Cars

I did not find it just now but a few days ago I read they had cut the time from a day or two to a few minutes to produce carbon fiber parts. It was impressive I remember but I see the loading of the die and prepping the stock is still manually to a large extent. The first article above mentions their financial limitations.

It boggles my mind how the strengths of Nissan are being wasted due to top management focusing on the past instead of the future today. Having an Lithium Ion based EV in 1996 and then letting Tesla come along in 2003 and having the Roadster to market in 2008 and now are selling 5 different models when Nissan is selling the basically the same technology of only one model introduced in 2010.

Japanese conservatism combined with lack of faith in new revolutionary ideas, and EV are a political product, it's the political demand for pollution reduction that created the big market for EV.

It took an outsider to create and accelerate this disruption.

Elon doesn't think or operate like a traditional automaker, but rather like the Valley Hi-Roller that he is. Others are playing catch up now, but he definitely kicked the Ecar pretty far down the road.....

Wil be interesting to see who of the car brands that survives the EV wave, and how many global brands will stay global.

VAG with VW, Audi, Skoda and Seat has declared that software is one of the most important part of car making and are moving that part to Silicon valley as a own company, maybe the idea is to license out software to other makers of cars.

Their mindset is different. Nissan did the world a favor by pumping out 1/2 million of the Leafs at a low price. I would not own an EV yet but some Leaf owners are moving to Tesla since Nissan dropped the ball. I love our 2016 SL Leaf especially that the new battery pack gave us a 150 mile range. I was going for the 4 external camera option which I find helpful and happened to get on with the new 2016 color of Deep Pearl Blue color.

I hope to get the height of a Model Y someday. Maybe he will have a $10K version some day.

Tesla'''s cars are too expensive, and Elon Musk knows it - Business Insider

Musk several years ago did sell MB some motors and batteries when they wanted to st.art an EV project. I can see him selling technology to other companies. The German factory is to build a Model Y that is built with new engineering from scratch. The article talks about he does not milk a product dry. Nissan can make the same flipping car for 10 years in a row.

Trying to get Model 3 prices for it may be a chore. I will have to see it to believe it is coming. I love the company but am turned off by the home office view of integrity at this point in time. The prototype looks nice but it is going to cost a lot to launch or get USA dealerships to carry it I expect.
