Hello all,

a neighbor of mine has asked if he could rent my barn and some fenced in field for 4 cows. I am trying to get a handle on how much that would be worth. $200 per month?

$2400 a year to keep four cows sounds pretty steep to me.

$200 a month is way to steep to pasture 4 cows.$300 a yr sounds real fair to me.

I have to agree with your $200.00 a month...based on prices here in Georgia you are very cheap....here it costs $150.00 a month just to board your horse in a pasture with no stall or barn...just pasture....You are being asked to rent your whole barn or provide a portion of it for 4 cows...and a portion of your pasture...I think you are being more than fair....geeez...How much would it cost your neighbor to build himself a barn and buy some more pasture....Maybe you could take a cow in trade and have it butchered as part payment...Is it worth the hassle and liability to you for any less than $200 a month...?

I guess it's the difference in economics between the horse biz and the cow biz. 200 per month is awful high for cows. Maybe $100 a month or less?

Don't you think the price would differ according to location..? I mean the cheap prices seem to be in Texas, but look at all the available grazing land in Texas....WE are only 45 min outside of Atlanta so land is expensive and rent is high too for animals...? Just wondering if it differs according to location...?

I am up in Washington County New York and had now idea about any dollar amount. I am going to let him use the part of the barn that was used for milking and the loft above for hay along with about an acre to turnout. I want to be fair and will be bartering the monthly rent for work on the farm.

thanks,
