I've been thinking about getting my 2500-hour L4200 a baby brother, and ran across a B9200 hydro TLB. I want a smaller rig - my 4200 is up at my camp, and it is appropriately sized for that property, but is way too big for my primary residence and surrounding postage-stamp sized 1.2 ac. I also want a backup for my 4200 in case it suffers a failure - I have to be able to run a 3pt snowblower with it, so I'm looking for something with HP in the mid-20s.

I haven't seen it in person yet, but the condition of the B9200 is fair at best, but the asking price is reasonable. I don't know anything about that model tractor other than it being a little over 20HP gross, which is at the low end of my desired range. How does it stack up with the current crop of B's? Any pros/cons would be appreciated, and are there any common failures I should be looking for when/if I go to take a look?

Thanks - JayC

It is the bigger motor version to my old B8200. Should be a 24hp, compared to the 19hp of the B8200.

My B8200HSTD was a great tractor. Built like a tank. Solid reliable. It was the sturdiest of the B series at the time. I only put 900 or so hours on mine; it was rock soild.

The succession went B9200, to B2150(24hp also), to B2710.

I would check to see if it has PS; many B8200's did not. Not sure on the B9200. The B9200 would be an '85-'86 model year.

B9200 would be a great tractor for the jobs you describe.

My neighbor has a B9200HST with BF350 FEL. According to the shop manual it is rated at 22.5 HP gross and 16 HP at the PTO for a HST model. It has been a very good tractor for him. His biggest complaint is the lack of power steering.

Problems he has experienced:

1) Both front wheels split and needed to be replaced. The originals were 2- piece bolt together design and the replacements are 1-piece.
2) Back rims rusted at the valve stem holes. Bad enough he needs a new rim (currently on order) and the other I repaired for him last weekend. Yes they were filled with calcium, but it was contained with inner tubes.
3) Minor wiring issues due to the wire insulation getting old
4) Replaced the voltage regulator.

All of the above are minor issues for a 25 year old tractor and it has been very reliable over the years.

It is a nice size tractor for around the house.

Does anyone have a good lead for a power steering kit for this tractor?

Look in "Parts and Repairs", and "Customize". There are a few threads about putting PS on these tractors. There is an aftermarket kit. One thread is about installing it in 90 minutes...

Does anyone have a good lead for a power steering kit for this tractor?

I JUST got one, so really can't comment. Mine is a geared model, and I do not believe that it has power steering. Hoping that will not be a real issue when I start doing some serious FEL work.

I used my B8200 for 10 years for loader ect work. Armstrong steering worked. For the most part, these tractors have smaller buckets, so it is managable. PS is nicer for sure.

My tractro has a BF350 loader. I believe that this is the same size as what was used on the B2150. Obviously smaller than a L, but is the bucket about the same size as any other B?

RobertN,

Thanks for the lead on the PS kit discussions. The design of some of these kits look very similar to the power steering that came on my JD 750.
