Kubota B6100-D
Hi all,

I've had our Kubota B6100DT since 1993 (bought used) and it has proven to be a reliable workhorse. I recall changing the fan belt in the early years of ownership and *think* that I did it without pulling the radiator. Time has come to change it once again (likely should have been a few years ago) and now I cannot imagine how I could have contorted myself to get to the tension adjustment bolt and then snake the belt up and over the fan with the tight clearances involved.

I've gone to kubotabooks and reviewed the relevant workshop repair manual (and my own copy I found) and there is no reference to this maintenance. I imagine it is too simple to include.

I suspect I'll drain the coolant, pull the radiator, and change the belt (and the hoses while I've got it apart), but for future reference, is there "that one secret" for changing the fan belt without pulling the radiator?

I found this site by searching for repairs to the 3PH (dropping with any load) and was very happy to see well written and documented descriptions of how to solve this issue. I was resigned to taking it to the repair shop but $5 later (two o-rings) its working better than when I bought it. So thanks to charlz for the write-up.

thanks everyone!

You can't just put the belt over the fan blades and work it around one or two blades at a time? There should be enough room between the fan and radiator.

Thanks for the reply. I think that is the only method other than pulling the radiator.

You might get some scraped knuckles but a lot faster........:)

Welcome to TBN.

I had a B7000 before which is basically the same, just one less cylinder.

While you have the belt out, check if the bearings on the fan/dynamo are good by just rotating it by hand and paying attention to any funny noises. I had mine go bad, luckily I caught it just in time before it failed catastrophically and damaged the radiator.

If pulling the dynamo there is one bolt on it that you may have to bend a wrench to remove.

Good point.

I had to take the entire assembly out on mine because the neck for the radiator hose was all corroded.

I turned a piece of aluminium to replace it, but struggled to find a competent TIG welder. The one I found, did a piss poor job and I had to fill the voids with JB weld. I did enlarged the whole to the correct size in the end.
