Have I been had? I just bought a tractor and it has a metal tag which clearly shows B6100D, but the number stamped into the frame shows B6001. Is this normal? Tractor sure looks like the tractor in the B6100 manual.
I just looked at a B6100 yesterday, and the frame was stamped the same (w/o the D). The owner did not know, but in my research I could not determine what the difference was.
What did it came with and what you paid seems to be good indicators. Everything I have reviewed indicates that this is a good machine. The non-hydrostat seems to have more power.
The one I saw here in central FL had a FEL with new 4' bucket, box blade, and 60" rear discharge finish mower. Asking price $5900 (obo). I am still thinking it over.
If yours is in good shape, you have a good machine.

My 1980 B7100 had B7001 stamped into the frame. I thinking that the frame itself is common between the two models. I don't remember if it said B7100 elsewhere on it though.
Sorry, the tag did't have the "D", just B6100. Thanks for the info.
I paid $2700 for the machine with a Befco C30 finish mower (I think) and a wide heavy back blade. Engine seems to run smooth. The machine needs some TLC, but my father and I are pretty handy. I think that was a decent price.
I think I made a good decision today by deciding to change all the fluids after buying this old B6100. The axle fluids and engine oil were all very black and thick. The 2.5 gallons of hydraulic fluid was also black and thick and it smelled of axle juice. Looks like someone was dumping in anything they had handy for the hydraulics/transmission. After it was all refilled with proper fluids, I used it for an hour. The engine oil and hydraulic oil was still clean and clear enough to make salad dressing Good insurance for $70.
I will have tons to do on the sheet metal as it's all dented, cracked, wire mesh is missing and the paint is faded. Good part is I'm in no hurry as it's a hobby. I named it Yogi (hobby in Japanese).
Yogi's cleaning up very well...Congrats and thanks for sharing the pics...I had a B5100 and that little puppy was bullet proof...Wish I would have kept it...Here's a couple of pics of it beside my BX23.
I sold my B6100 a few months ago and I was really sorry to see it go. You won't find a more honest, well built machine out there. The thing was a tank and I never had a bit of trouble with it. Good luck and enjoy!
