I was over at the neighbours who has a home made 3pt cultivator 6 feet wide. He has a 4320 John Deere with ag tires. Idle curiousity led up to hooking it to the B3030 with turfs just to see how it did. Power didn't seem to be any problem but it was at or near the limits of traction most of the time. This was on previously cultivated land that has seen a lot of rain lately so some fairly hard patches.
The point of the thread, 2 or 3 minutes into pulling this thing and the tractor stops dead. A quick scan reveals the range selector lever in between low and mid range. I thought maybe I hadn't pulled it back far enough so hauled it back into position solidly, no doubt that it is as far back in the slot as it will go. Another 2 or 3 minutes, and in a fairly tough spot where it is pulling hard and it popped out again. The tractor has pulled hard before but never sustained like that, just short bursts filling the bucket or ripping out a small sapling, things like that. Most of the other things I use the tractor for are as a power supply/tool carrier, snow blowing, roto tilling, lawn mowing. No great pulling power required. Any thoughts or anyone else had this happen??

It should not come out of gear no matter how hard it is pulling. Sounds like you better see the dealer about it. How long have you had it? Is it still under warranty? Good luck.

It was one year old in March and currently has 128 hours on it.
I was in town today so stopped at the dealer to ask about it popping out like that, they are checking for any related bulletins. I have to go to town again on Thursday so will see what they have found.
Agree it should not pop out of gear for any reason. Maybe if it had 10000 hours on it but not at 128

There may be some linkage adjustment on that.

I looked to see if there was any adjustment, there is none on the outside. Maybe there is some inside the case that the dealer could do.
I was at the dealer today and was told the area rep has been at a farm show the past few days and hasn't gotten back to them. Probably next week to get any reply now. Not a big deal as the tractor is still fully useable for its normal jobs. I just won't be playing tractor pull with it.

Rod, Old thread, but I'm curious to hear what you found out about this. I just had a very similar thing happen in my B3030. Pulling in 4wd Low at the limits of traction and it popped out of gear. Pushed it back in gear and continued without further problems, but wondering if I need to take it in.
Thanks
Scott

Scott, from an old thread here I had a problem with my B3030 not going into low gear. Here is what I wrote

[[[on my b3030 tractor I had trouble getting it into low range, it too was hanging up between indents. Since it was under warranty a service mechanic came out, removed the left rear tire and proceeded to diagnose the problem. After a few minutes of using a small sledge hammer he apparently got things lined up, yikes!!! Been fine ever since. I tried to fix it myself but there is so much linkage in that area I figured I'd let them do the repair. You might want to remove the tire and have someone move the lever while you look underneath to see where it is hanging up. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Good Luck!!!]]]

I wonder if there is some issue with the linkage on the 3030. Seems like it happened to a bunch of 3030's. But I've never had to push the 3030 to its limits in low range. Weird!!

I just spoke the mechanic at the dealer who said its likely a linkage issue.

Either I didn't have it pulled back in gear fully or sometimes he said the linkage gets bent and it doesn't engage fully. Since it only happened the one time he suggested I just use it as normal and if it becomes a frequent problem that I look to see of the linkage is bent.

He says it can get bent from trying to force it in gear if it doesn't engage easily.
