Also when checking for leaks I could feel little exhaust "gusts" from the cracks simply by putting my hand (carefully) close to the area with potential leaks. These are pretty loud engines, sometimes easier to feel the leak than hear them.

Thanks nbryan.

That's another great suggestion.

I probably should start a different post with an appropriate title, but I wanted to report that tday I pulled the sides off of the B3000 and did as good of a visual inspection as I could using a high power flashlight and a mirror.

I did not see any cracks, holes or anything suspicious.

I started it up and used a rag to cover/plug the end of the exhaust pipe briefly several times.

Seemed to have good pressure trying to push the rag off, and I didn't hear anything that sounded like an exhaust leak.

I then got a spray bottle of soapy water and sprayed all the fittings, muffler and exhaust pipe where it would be possible for a leak to occur.

I saw no bubbles forming anywhere.....

So I am still at a loss to find the source/cause of the odor.

Maybe the dealer knows some other tricks.... or maybe even has some sort of service bulletin addressing this problem.

Have you unbolted the exhaust pipe from the engine manifold? Checked the manifold gasket for issues? Made sure it's torqued down correctly?

I removed my whole exhaust assembly from the engine manifold to tailpipe, to facilitate better positioning for the weld repairs. I recall 4 studs to loosen, off she popped. Didn't discover the crack around the muffler outlet pipe until the pipe came off the engine.

Sounds like it's getting complicated.

Did you have to replace the manifold gasket?

What else was involved?

I read somewhere that someone else had discovered a missing screw on the intake air filter.

I don't know exactly where such a filter is located on the B3000. I sort of looked around and can't spot it right off the bat.

Thanks.

The manifold gasket was perfectly fine, reused no problem. Just 4 studs to loosen, came off and went back on super easy. Not complicated at all. Simple.
