Hello Everyone,

I just made changes to our DNS Records, and over the next 24 hours we should have a seamless switch to a new IP address. This is NOT our new server. This is just a new IP address. This will make the actual server switch MUCH faster and smoother.

I do not anticipate problems. BUT... problems may arise. If you experience problems, do post to this thread.

The nature of DNS is that it may take at least 24 hours, as many as 72 (or sometimes more) hours for changes to take place. I have set our server up so this won't matter. But it might. If it does, you will be unable to access TBN.

To find out if you are accessing the new IP or the Old IP you have to open a Command Prompt (Also called a dos box. Start>Run>"cmd" enter) And then type: ping tractorbynet.com

If the IP Address (series of 4 numbers separated by .) is 209.61.158.216 then you are on the old IP if it's 66.216.78.243 then you are on the new IP. If you can still access TBN and you're on the new IP, that means everything went great and there is no problem. If you see the new IP and you can't access it, then you'll have to take a break from TBN while I work it out.

As I said before, I don't anticipate a problem. And we will be testing so we get access to the new IP quickly and test it ourselves.

But I thought a heads up was in order while we work through all this. This is a lot like the road crews who are building a new highway. It's a real pain when you're trying to drive through all the construction, but isn't it real nice once it's done?

Well!

As you all saw, we had a bit of a hiccup! Sorry about that. But I'm glad I learned that problem now rather than later. But all is well, and TBN should be in working order.

I spoke a little too soon last night, and we had a bit of a hiccup while I was asleep. Some of you ended up on another site we host, Attar Bazaar, but all is fixed now, again. And it should be smooth sailing from now on.

Everything is working fine, but I still show to be on the old IP if I "Ping" per your instructions. However, if I just go to the new IP, I still get to TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif And of course, it doesn't take much to confuse me where computers are concerned. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It'll take time for you to get the new IP.

But it all goes to the same server right now.

FWIW - Same command works dandy on UNIX. My server finds your new IP address jes' fine. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

For old Macintosh users who are not blessed with DOS, there's a dandy freeware utility you can use: OTTool.

Since I'm still living in the dark ages and can't afford to step up to OS X yet, I can't help ya there. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Like Ibrahim sez, though, all this geek stuff isn't really necessary. Just keep on doin' whatcha been doin' and all that address lookup stuff will fix itself in a day or two. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I know, I know -- who asked me, anyway? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Ping-ed Tractorbynet.com and worked - New IP.
Also,
Smell-ed AttarBazaar.com odors and it too worked - Old IP.

No confusion/problem on this site.
FYI.
