Hi all, I believe the temperature plug on my 2004 Jinma 284LE with Y385 engine, went south on me last week. As soon as I start the tractor, the temperature gauge rises all the way to hot (sweeps all the way to right) within 30 seconds , and this is on a 40 degree day, so no way it's that hot. I've cleaned the connection at the plug, but i did not remove the plug from the block. The radiator is full, and the pump is working, as I can see water moving in the radiator after the tractor warms up. Does anyone know of any cross reference plugs that will work that I can get at the local AutoZone or O'Reilly's?

If not, from what is viewable without having removed my plug, I believe I need what's called the 'new style' plug, as it appears to be what is currently in my tractor from the pictures I can find online. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks. I was considering going with a mechanical gauge, but would really like to get the OE gauge working again. I'll drop by the parts store today and see if they may have something that might work, but one concern I have is I have no way of knowing if the resistance is the same as the OE unit. I was planning to move some dirt this weekend, but I don't like going too long without knowing how hot it really is running. I'll probably just end up just ordering the correct part and wait to move that dirt. Maybe I'll do some fluid changes while I'm waiting.. To the tractor, not me... :D

Thanks,
Ted

Is the Temp gauge only one doing it? some times the ground wire and or gauge wire on back looses connection and will make them act funky...

not sure what the resistance is on your sender but I'm sure if you pull the wire and put a meter on it then ask Tommy or even on here we can check a working one and check levels, hate to see you buy a sender and it is in wiring or gauge...

Thanks for the reply, the gauge wires being loose didn't even occur to me. It is only the water temp gauge that is mis-behaving, the others work fine. I'm back in the seat again after a rough couple of weeks, with step-father having to get an emergency double by-pass, and me fighting really bad sinus infection, :(. I'm feeling much better now, so I will definitely make it out to the shop this weekend, if not sooner, and check the connections on the back of the gauge. I'll also take a ohm reading on the gauge and get back with ya'll.
Thanks,
Ted

I put a meter on the plug this weekend, and it was showing 123 ohms at approx 40 degrees F. I pulled the instrument cluster loose, but I'll need to find a wiring diagram to figure out where the temp wire connects. The entire cluster needs a good cleaning anyway.

Thanks,
Ted C.

I just checked mine, it read 55. ohm, i guess the engine was at 70 f, it was not reading on the gage yet
