I have all ways used the bit on the bucket at ground level, with slight pressure on the front of the post (were the points stick out) and one person pushing the post toward the bucket and raise. works like a charm, I don't think I have bent very many. This would oly work well on a hydro tranny unless your good with a clutch and brake.

Re: Anyone mount a \"T-Post Puller\" on FEL or 3-pt?

I've been doing kind of like DDT suggested.

I just put the bucket edge up against the T ridges down low, and lift up, keeping a slight bit of pressure on the post with my foot on the forward hydro pedal. It works most of the time without bending the posts, but a chain might be a bit easier. You have to have a sensitive foot on the tranny pedal.

I did bend a post pretty good last weekend trying to get it out, but it was in so tight for some reason, that I kept lifting the back end of the tractor off the ground, and that was with my 300+ lb rear blade on the 3ph. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I finally had to pull it out by hand - must've been pushing the bottom up against a rock or root when I was trying with the bucket, cause as soon as I leaned it in the opposite direction and pulled, it came out with a moderate amount of grunting and growling on my part.
I'm pretty sure that grunting usually gives my muscles a 1-2 horsepower boost, but it sometimes seems to freak out the neighbors. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Anyone mount a \"T-Post Puller\" on FEL or 3-pt?

What I did as someone else had suggested was using the flat drawbar and the 3ph. Had a little short section of chain. Wrapped it around the pole/post/stake in the ground and around the drop bar and hook it to the lift arms so that bar doesn't want to rotate. Up came whatever was in the ground. I did spin the drawbar around so that it was actually vertically instead of horizontal to give it a little more strength. The great thing about the hydro is, as it is coming up you can ease forward to keep the lift truly straight as to avoid bending/breaking what you are working on.

$20 at TSC for a drawbar and another $10 for a short piece of chain with hooks and you are in business.

I have a post jack that I will use for a post or 2. Anything more than that and I use the cam lock off the jack with a short chain and the FEL.

Ah yes. A good grunt will definately improve the effort. Also a hideous grimace (much like guitar players will produce when in the grove) will provide a dramatic difference in your abilities.

A carefully placed tounge (I find left cheek the best spot) will make your movements more precise and delicate -- that is, when threading a small nut on a bolt that is upside down and inside a convolution of wires and hot metal tubing, holding your tounge right will enhance your likelyhod of success.

Bob,

Would this be a project that you could put your backhoe to use on? Never done it myself, but I bet you could rig something up.

Re: Anyone mount a \"T-Post Puller\" on FEL or 3-pt?

In some places yes, and in other spots maybe not. There were a few spots where it was pretty tight getting into with the FEL on the TC24 to push the T posts down and then back out again, the added length of the B2910 with the BH would probably prevent me from getting in to one area in particular where there are 3 or 4 posts, but the rest of the posts are probably accessible.

I think I'm going to try pulling with a chain on the FEL in the spring, it has to beat jacking them out and bending them.

Re: Anyone mount a \"T-Post Puller\" on FEL or 3-pt?

Bob,
At the local feed store I found something similar to what Harv created. Its a piece of flat steel with a "T" cut into the middle and a loop of heavy chain on one side.

I pulled about a hundred old t posts out really quickly by hooking the chain around a tooth on the bucket, lowering the bucket while my dear wife slide the contraption down over the t post, and then I simply lifted the loader. Once we got the system down it went really quickly. We have heavy red clay and when I pulled them out a couple of summers ago the tractor gave only a little groan and out it came.

Let me see if I can find the name on that little puller and I will post it.

Re: Anyone mount a \"T-Post Puller\" on FEL or 3-pt?

I cannot post a picture, as I just lost my digital camera on Monday as I set it on the box side of my pick up & drove off.

I made one for the front of my skid loaders by using a stationary arm and an arm run by a hydralic cylinder pinching a T post with loading dock rubber on the front of each arm..
just got done building it and not used yet but will here this week hopefully.
will post piks when I get another digital camera, soon!!!!

Re: Anyone mount a \"T-Post Puller\" on FEL or 3-pt?

Bob, weld a hook to a car/truck flywheel so you can get a chain on it , drop it over the T post thru the center, attach with chain to the FEL and up she comes. If you get good at it you don't even need to get off the tractor.
