any word on DEF causing more rust out in exhausts?

since water is daughter of the process.. any word on more rust out.. or is it simply too new to know yet?

The exhausts are stainless steel, should not be an isssue. Being up here in the salt belt, I am really surprised at how well the exhaust on my 04 still looks. UREA is a tad more corrosive, but it should not be too much an issue, so long as they use the good stuff, and not crap scrap.

Yes, the urea itself is the real PITA... ever seen the payloader at the fertiliser plant ? Yes, urea is basically a solution of fertiliser in water...

The good part is that it doesnt pass through the engine, unlike EGR which sootens up the engine and EGR passage..

DEF is 67% water and 33% Urea and it is really corrosive. We have all stainless steel pumps for handling it. The tanks on our trucks are all plastic.

Yes they were having a lot of problems with the stacks wrotting off on the big trucks but by now everyone has changed the steel and it seems to be less of a problem.

Only issue we have had is the oil and fuel leaks from the engine misting back onto the afterburner canister and catching on fire.... have had that happen several times.

yeah, but I think the original idea was to have the flame INSIDE the exhaust... not trying to burn the hydraulic hoses off the PTO pump and tank supply line!!!..

The urea goes in before the Catalytic converter, and it comes out as water vapor and nitrogen. There is no corrosion, burning fuel makes water. Let us try and stick to actual problems not making up things there is an post on the diesel Garage site that says DEF is a good skin softener and foot bath solution. Knowledge is king!
