A little late to ask for advice since I already ordered it today, but... has anyone bought one of the receiver hitches to go on the 3PH from Bad River? The unit bolts to a standard draw bar and comes with a safety chain to prevent problems with negative tongue weight. It thought it looked pretty good and was reasonably priced, sure easier than me spending the better part of a day welding one up.

I already have a hitch mounted cargo basket for the van which could come in handy hauling coolers down to the lake, and use a trailer hitch all the time.

I'm also thinking of building a ballast box around a piece of ball mount square tube stock to slide into the receiver. That way I can leave the hitch on the 3PH and not have to wrestle with the 3PH every time to hook up the ballast box. I figure if I build it such that the square tubing comes out of the box about 1/3 of the way up on the box, it should help center the weight and not put too much twist on it. If I build it 2'x2'x2', it should hold up to 900 lbs =/- of sand, more than I need. As far as hooking up to the tractor, I think I will be able to back up, get the tube started into the receiver, disconnect the top link and adjust the height so it slides in (remember, it will be swiveling on just the draw bar at this point), then re-connect the top link adjusted as necessary. Maybe I will place a piece of the stock in my van receiver and back the tractor up to it to try the method I just described - just to make sure before I spend all the time building a box I can't connect. Of course, I could always add the pins for a standard 3PH connection at a later time. Any thoughts?

The Bad Rivers Hitch is one of the best you can buy. I have one and it is very well made and has preformed beyond my expectations. The really neat feature is the safety chain that bolts to the drawbar. That system does work and works well. I moved a very heavy commercial chipper with a pintle hitch adaptor up and down our driveway with no problem and the chain kept the chipper from riding up on the tractor. I feel that all these hitch systems should have the safety chain system.

I placed a Fimco 25-gallon spray rig on a receiver carrier and it works well.

I agree. When BadRiver first came to my attention on TBN several months ago, I already had my "homemade" 3PH receiver. The chain idea was easily incorporated and works great to keep anything you tow from lifting up at the hitch.

Absolutely - I have had the Bad River Hitch now for about 6 months and it's been a godsend. I can move the trailers, boats, etc., in my polebarn without having to work with the truck (or strain the back). /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On the notion of ballast... or with any implement that you have to hook to the 3pt and it's a bit of work to struggle with... I suggest you get some of the car wheel ramps (they allow you to put your car wheel up on them and then roll the car around for storage). I purchased a couple of sets of these and by using some 2x4(s) and 2x6(s), I can manuever my box blade, forks, ballast box, and buckets around very easily in my barn. Connection to my 3pt is quick and painless and my back doesn't have to get strained in the process... For $35 a pack, this is quite a savings. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Take care and good luck!

Bob,

I have the dolly wheel sets similar to what you are talking about for my snowmobiles - they are great. But I don't have an area with concrete or pavement (yet) where I can store the implements, so I'm kind of stuck.

The hitch came today (Thursday) via UPS ground. I talked to the factory salesman on Tuesday, he said it would go out that day and it did! Talk about quick. Looks like a rugged build, can't wait to back up under the tongue of a trailer rather than try to get close and lift it on the ball. Bad River seems to be a good company to deal with and sells a well made product. It is nice to run into an outfit like that once in a while.

Yes - I was very happy with the service and help he provided to me when I called. Speaking of "lifting" a trailer onto a ball... try doing that with a 10K trailer sometime. Having this on my 3-pt has been a godsend.

Good luck to you!

I have the Bad River hitch also and am very pleased with it. Among it's many uses, I have several attachments from a previous garden tractor (sweeper, aerator, cart) that need a lower connection height (6" - 8") than the fixed drawbar height of my B7500 (13"). With the Bad River hitch I can easily tow them at the correct height.
