A suggested deterrent

When I see people 'behaving badly' I might whip out my cel phone and go through the motions of taking pics or vids. I'll give a wave, point to the phone and nod my satisfaction at catching their behavior to be 'shared'.

Never mind that I struggle to take decent pics at all, .. they don't know that.
For any wave of a finger or 'moon shot' returned I can gesture an 'OK' sign, smile, and nod again.

Just in case I get physically attacked I do try to get the cam function to work while doing my bit, and with a potential audience I count on witnesses to any drastic comebacks I engender. It's living on the edge to know what a long shot it'd be that they'd have their cam handy ...

In order to set up this story you need to understand that I work in some remote places in Northwestern Ontario.
20 years ago I'm sitting in my truck (tinted windows), in a laneway (about 30' wide) waiting to get unloaded. Along comes a fairly large motorhome with American plates, they stop string out the sewer hose and promptly dump their holding tank into the ditch. Pissed me off big time! This was way before cell phone cameras so I couldn't take pics nor call the cops.

I have a similar mentality.

But trash is wayyyyyyyy down the list.

How about Computer Hackers? Maybe those who use guns to commit a crime? Or how bout career welfare recipients? People who neglect or abuse animals? Rioters? Biased News Reporters? People who illegally park in handicap parking spaces? People who dig thru stuff on store shelves and don't put it back where it belongs? Men who spit their chewing tobacco in urinals? People who talk on their Cell Phones in the checkout line ahead of you?

See how far down the list littering is for me.......

I would add men who disrespect women.

I jumped into my truck and took off down the highway hoping, but not really expecting I would find them.

Nowadays that would be called "road rage", a good way to get shot! Not a good cost/benefit outcome.

I watched a lady toss trash out of her car…..
I propose for anyone caught littering that a pole be stuck in the ground at the precise location of the offense and that the offender be hung at that exact spot with the litter pinned to his or her clothing and then taken down in say 30 days.

Or at minimum, chained to the post:thumbsup: But your right, this is how you train stupid. Save the hanging for the 2nd offense. Stupid solved.

I mow about 500' of frontage along a two lane highway. Every spring I fill 2 to 3 30 gallon trash bags with garbage that people throw out of their car. I can tell you one thing, drinking and driving is alive and strong. Most of what I pick up is beer cans and bottles. Close second is fast food trash, and then spent lotto scratch off tickets.

I'd love to catch someone doing it or find an address. The junk would end up in their front yard.

I can tell you one thing, drinking and driving is alive and strong. Most of what I pick up is beer cans and bottles. Close second is fast food trash, and then spent lotto scratch off tickets.

I'd love to catch someone doing it or find an address. The junk would end up in their front yard.

Dividing it to one side only, I mow 3 miles of roadbank. I'm actually pretty fortunate. Very little trash thrown out. People in my community respect landowner's efforts to improve their properties. The one thing that really riles me is bundles of hay bale netwrap. No excuse for that other than the owner of it hoping it blows off his flatbed while he's going home......

Why single out criminals who used guns? If the shelves weren't junked up to begin with you wouldn't need to dig through them. I don't like the whole idea of handicapped spots. What's wrong with talking on a self phone in a checkout line? It makes me far madder when there's an inadequate number of checkouts open and I have to wait 20 minutes. Let's add putting flowers ( and I've dealt with worse things like bird baths, wishing wells, fences, and potted flowers ) off the head stones. That crap adds a LOT of work to the guys mowing.
