Well, I have not owned a dog in about 25 years and have missed having my own. So I found this pup. Her name is Sasha and is a chocolate lab mix. She is great with my daughter (5 years old) and loves affection. I think she is mixed with a grey hound though as she has that type body and boy is she fast. She slipped her collar at my friends place while playing with their yellow lab and was laping the house in a split second. All I had to do was open the truck door though and she hopped in :)

But as my luck would have it, I bring her home tonight and within two hours she gets sprayed by a skunk and I smelled almost as bad as she was on the leash. But I am still happy as she is a great dog and my daughter loves her :D

This pic is on our drive home after I picked her up

Congrats on the new addition to the family. She looks just like you!!

I always liked the chocolate labs the best, but they sure are the toughest to train. Funny how the colors of the dog make such a difference in training them. Chocolates have the thickest skull of all three colors.

Of course, the Chessepeak has the thickest head of all retrievers, but man can they hunt!!!!

Eddie, interesting info re lab colors...had me a yellow lab for years...superb dog. Didn't know colors made that kind of difference...learn something new all the time here on TBN.

I'm passing on second hand information. My brother is a field trial judge and trains pointers, retrievers and also has allot of experience with guard dogs. Right now, he's mostly into retrievers and labs.

Overall, the black lab has the best temperment and is the easiest to train. Yellow labs tend to do well, but will often have an odd trait about them. Fighting, bullying or the oposite. You just never know with yellow labs what you will get. Chocolate tend to be bull headed and stuborn.

All are great dogs and are very trainable. Especially when compared to the other breeds. Nothing better then a lab for temperment or intelegence. It's just that within the breed, there is a pattern with color and how they behave. For the average owner, it's unlikely that you'd even notice any of this. With my brother, who trains and competes them, it's very noticable.

To me, the weirdest thing about the Labs is the fact that you can have different colors in the same litter. A cousin of mine had a yellow lab for 18 years, but that dog's parents were black.

Your right Eddie, I am around all colors of labs and am amazed how different they all act. The yellow lab I spent the most time with was actually lazy. All she wanted was to be a lap dog. Didn't like to play fetch or much else. Her dad was a black lab and he was always playing and was well behaved. The chocolate lab I have been around is a beast. He is a big baby but is intimidating when you see how big he is. Every lab I have ever been around has been great with young kids and everyone in general. Thats why I like this breed. Sasha is a good pup and I am getting to know her but would love to get a pure bred lab some day just because I like them so much :D

I gave sasha a tomato juice shower today and will most likely give her another one tomorrow. She is a good pup and stood in the shower like a good dog :) Didn't try to shake till I had the towel over her entire body. Then we went outside to play and luckily didn't find any more skunks.
