Excellent explanation how to start with gasoline for IH TD series dozer.A couple of things stated in the video that were wrong, in that when you pulled the start lever out, it OPENED a third valve in the combustion chamber that contained the spark plug electrodes, which also reduced the compression ratio when running on gas. It also closed a valve in the intake manifold that routed intake air through the carburetor and closed a switch that sent power to the ignition system.
I grew up crawling around on Dad's TD14 back in the 50s and 60s. Later he had a couple of TD18As, a TD20 and a TD24. I always though that system was much better than the pony motors on CATs. Those pony motors were a pain in the ass, but we never had problems with the IHC starting system.
How did you come by that machine? Original owner?Several giant digger pine trees that I needed to cut down due to the tilt.
It could fall down very soon and be dangerous to our family.
I have had this dozer for more than 15 years and cleared my 80 acres property.
This is a 1958 International Harvester TD 14 142 Series. It is 64 years old and made in the USA.
This is probably my last mission with this dozer in my life.
Sooo,, Sad...
That gas to diesel lever must pull the valve to increase compression, turn off gas and open diesel fuel flow. Cool. Here is the video of the whole procedure to start with gasoline to diesel operating.
I uploaded this video last year.
Enjoy.
If I recall correctly, on the TD9 we had years ago you closed the petcock at the glass bowl, then pulled the diesel throttle while pushing the gas throttle. That gas to diesel lever must pull the valve to increase compression, turn off gas and open diesel fuel flow. Cool.
Of course this dozed couldn't possibly have ever worked. No plastic, no warning labels. We all know that Warning labels is what makes things work, right?
I purchased this big toy 15 years ago from another guy for clearing the heavy wood property. How did you come by that machine? Original owner?
First tree looked lake it was hung up on the stump. I was surprised to see the power nose down as you tried backing up. Thanks for sharing.
nice avatar picture. They are the true herosYou say you will be burning the trees? No one uses firewood where you live, or no one with portable log mill? Here out west you have a lot of good money laying there. Great video. They sure don't make good products like that anymore.
