Did my 50 hour service today.

Engine oil was easy(as expected).

Tranny.........well, I saw something I didn't expect. Several shards of metal "welded" themselves to the screen. I should have taken pictures, but I didn't. I scraped at them lightly with my fingernail, but they didn't come loose. I cleaned the screen as best I could, but left the 'shards' on the screen(was afraid of damaging the screen).

Refilled with oil, let the tractor run for 20 minutes(to warm up the fresh, cold oil), and everything but the 3 pt. functioned as it should. After several cycles of the 3 pt., the funny noises went away and it functioned properly. FEL and tranny worked perfectly during this period.

I did not remove the right rear wheel to do the service, but I did stick a flexible magnet onto the opening, and removed several large shards of metal that were still in there(along with a lot of 'fines')

All in all, everything went fine, tractor is operating properly.

Don, how did you get the screen out with the wheel still on- flex it, or...?

Don, I can understand the wear-in fines, but to wield anything you need a great amount of heat and I can not see that amount of heat developing in an oil bath at the filter screen. But seeing is believing.

Once the screen is kinda pulled out a little, it can be pivoted into the tire rim opening and removed. Just need to be careful of the o-rings.

I was surprised myself. I did try to pick the pieces off with my fingernail, but they were actually 'attached' to the screen(laying flat, not the pointy end).

I did end up with a 'shard' in my finger, that my wife removed for me:thumbsup:

I agree with the 50 hours hyd. screen cleaning. I owned a BX25 . When I did the 50 hr fluid change to AMSOIL, i removed the screen also and found it partly covered with gasket sealer that squeezed out during the cases assembly. I added this link to see the screen. not a great picture but it shows the silicone on it.

Are you positive those weren't on the screen from the start? Maybe just part of the process?
