At Northern the price was $113 on sale, normal retail was $289. They are not going to carry them anymore, slow mover. Had to buy it like I need another project (like log splitter). So I bought it. Can someone give more ideas to use this cylinder for other project? Would be nice to use it for more than just a log spiltter.

Well, a 4" cylinder with 1 3/4" rod at 2500psi has 31,416 lbs of push and 25,403lbs of pull ( 2000psi would give you about 25,000/20,000 respectively)so you could make some BIG projects. Dump wagon, rock crusher, trash compactor, tree shear, mother-in-law lift.

A cylinder that size takes a lot of GPM to cycle quickly too. 10 GPM would take 14 seconds to fully cycle (extend/retract 24" each way) it so that is always something to consider when putting a project together.

Personally, I think a tree shear might be handy but don't think 24" stroke would be necessary.

Hey Jawz, I see your post was from mid april, but how long ago did you make that purchase from northern? Was it through the hotline catalog or just the regular one? Thats a good deal and i'd like to jump on it, but i can't find it online. Thanks.

It was in the store on the discount rack. They said that it was going to be discontinued.

Build a shearer with a 4:1 leverage to cut 6"......at 4 times the cylinder force....or 3:1 leverage to cut 8" at 3 times the the cylinder force.....
build it adjustable??
and the same cylinder could be used for many applications, removeable clevis pins, and QD's on the hoses.....
