Maybe . One joy stick for four functions. Up, down, dump and curl load.

IIRC, it's 4 functions are as follows:

1. regular bucket
2. grapple
3. clamshell bucket
4. dozer blade

I lift with chains all the time.

Be careful not to have the chains too long if you are going to move the item. It will swing in the direction of travel and can dent your grill.

you can weld on hooks, or bolt on hooks. for chains. normally at least 2, one on each end, across the top of a bucket. some folks go for 3. the extra one in the middle along the top of bucket.

have used chains to lift many things. when something is delicate. i generally tie a rope around the object and let someone else walk along, loosely holding rope. to help keep things from swinging back into the tractor.

Surely there must be a better way to use the FEL to lift items and reduce the swing apart from chains and ropes on hooks. Any inventors out there? lol

if the item is like a fridge, or freezer, or desk or other furniture, i am moving off of trailer and up to house. ya i will tie a rope to each one to prevent swinging from happening all together.

but if i am carrying a log. or something i really could care less about. and it starts to swing. i will stop tractor and just drop the item right to the ground. hopefully not banging it up against tractor before i am able to stop the really ugly swinging.

like curely dave noted, keep chains short. as they wrap over the edge of bucket and down onto the object. no need to re-invent a childs play set with swings on it.

Of course there is a better way. Get a set of forks that interchange with the bucket. Now you have a real lifting machine.

But lifting anything with a built-in hard point, will go better with chains.

Lift slings come in handy for some of those awkward loads. Loop one around each end of the FEL , no hooks needed.
