I have a 2016 or '17 Deere 3039R with their H165 loader. It has been an awesome tractor with just a few, mostly ergonomic things I wish I could chance, but probably cannot.

However, one issue that might be adjustable is the rate of the hysdraulics, particularly the rate of dumping the bucket on the loader. It seems awfully slow to me - slower than curling the bucket up. Maybe that's because this weekend it was down around 1F with 40 mph winds blowing while I was trying to clear drifts and I was just limited in how long I could stand the cold. But realistically, I feel that the bucket could dump a lot faster, even when it is plenty warm.

So I have just two questions, is the rate of flow for this operation adjustable?

and, if so, how?

I don't see anything about this in the manual, but I've missed stuff in the manual before.

Thanks

Are you using the "regen" function on the dump correctly? Sounds like it is your problem..
The regen function is designed for a fast dump, but if not used as designed, the dump feature can be very slow.

Check it out in the manual. Hope this helps.

Probably not. I have no idea what you are talking about, but now I know what to look for. Regen isn't something to do with exhaust management?

No on the exhaust.. it has to do with speeding up the extension of a cylinder (tip the bucket faster) by re-routing the hydraulics..
you will only get that when the joy stick is pushed far to the right.. and that is what shows in the manual. Doesn't explain it, but this link tells about it in more detail.. regenerative hydraulics.

Pic from the manual.. with description.

But if not done with the right movement of the joy stick, the bucket tilt can get into a slow-motion movement which I suspect is what you have going on..

Bucketing snow is slow enough without making it slower.. :)

I'm sure you are exactly right! Dang. I wonder how many other things this tractor can do that I don't know about. Thanks a bunch. This is a big help.

Engine RPM's control the flow of your pump. At rated RPM you will have the maximum flow from your pump. At lower RPM's you have less flow.

Due to the dump cylinder arrangement, you are right, dumping does take longer than curling the bucket in. Extending a cylinder takes more oil than retracting. The quick dump option is a nice feature.
Lighter hydraulic fluid, like the JD Hygard Low Viscosity will make the hydraulics work faster in cold weather. The low viscosity has a way lower flow point compared to the domestic Hygard.
There is a video on YouTube. I just don't know how to post a link here. Use the search function and enter "JD Hygard low viscosity comparison" and it should show up.
