Thanks for the guys who educated me on the suspended decks on the 2xxx series. Now I would like a response from 2520/2720 owners or those familiar with these models. I was going to buy a 2630/3030 Kubota but have noticed these Deeres are in the same size/hp class. I like the idea of the suspended deck, but noticed on the Deere site that I can't get the 7 iron deck on these models, only the plain version.Does anyone have this setup that could comment?I am also concerned on the two range hydrostat, is it ok or too lo/high with no middle?I have owned a 790 with a rfm, and a Kubota with mmm. I sold my zero turn because I can not afford both and need the tractor function for some projects. I need info on the hydro on the Deere as compared to the Kubota, the front end loader(cx) and overall impressions of this size Deere. Thanks for the help

Hello ipwanab
I can't comment on the 2 range hydro with a definite good or bad,but the little time I have on my tractor (9 hours),I will say I wish it had a tweener range:)
I will answer my our questions this summer when I mow with it for the first time.
As for what you call the "plain" version of the deck, you will be pleasantly surprised to see how beefy the drive overs are. I have the 62D,and it is to say the least a stout son of a gun.
The loader IMHO on the 2520 in a word is simply awesome. Like I stated,I don't have that much seat time, but what I do have I am lovin' this tractor so far:)
Hope this answers your questions to some degree.

I have over 200hrs on my 2520. I mow @ 2+ acres in Ohio, use the loader extensively (snow removal, use it with lawn mower for to hold grass clippings, to hold leaves, mulch, etc.) and am extremely happy with it. I don't "miss" a mid range, it would be a nice to have though. I have a fair amount of trees, so couldn't cut in any range higher than low anyway. Low is a fine speed for me, doesn't bounce you all over the place, and it's easy to get around the trees. I able to trip all around them without the push mower. The deck is great, gives a very nice cut, easy to remove, and is durable. I thought getting the 2520 was over kill, and don't regret it one bit. I know if I'd gone smaller, which is what I started out doing, I would have regretted it.

I used to have two tractors, a small grass cutting one, and a larger one for snow removal, and heavy lifting. The 2520 does both jobs, and does them very well. It sips fuel, has plenty of power, and I've used a few attachments without any problems. It's done well over 100 post holes, helped clear woods, I've used a rear mower (Woods) to cut my father's 5 acre pasture, used a bush hog to cut a "meadow" down at my cabin, and so on. In short, a very versatile and capable machine I highly recommend.

To answer the mower question, all the decks on the 2x20 series are the 7 irons. They just label it the 62D or whatever because they are drive over decks, but I assure you they are 7 irons, just beefed up even more! The only tractor that comes with the standard deck is the 2305. If its a green deck, its a 7 iron, if its yellow, its not.

I beg to differ -

Just because the deck is green, does not necessarily make it a 7Iron

Look at the attachments for the 3000 series - they offer the 60D, 62D, & 54D which are all green - then also offer the 7Iron.

The 7Iron is a deeper deck and also has a higher blade tip speed while also being one piece stamped 7 gauge steel.

I have a 2520 and both the 62D belly mower and a Frontier GM1072R rear finish mower. I find the 62D to be well made and leaves a nice cut. However, I have to say that I believe the rear mower actually delivers a superior overall cut because it follows the terrain better. If you have flat property, you probably wouldn't notice the difference, but my property is rough and hilly.

Which brings me to my second point: Due to the hills, roughness and obstacles, low range works fine for my mowing needs. However, it would be VERY nice if this machine has a range in between L and H for other tasks, such as plowing and loader work.

I have tried mowing in high range and it's hard to feather the pedal for smooth operation. Also, it sounds like the machine is straining a lot.

Overall, I have been VERY happy with this machine, it has done all I have asked of it (mowing, loader work, pallet forks, grading with box blade and rear blade, lifting with boom pole, moving boat trailers, etc.). I have had no mechanical problems whatsoever.

The 200cx loader works well, is easy to mount/dismount. I really love the quick-attach bucket feature and switch between bucket, forks, boom pole, trailer hitch, etc. on there all the time. It is easy to use.

If you decide to buy a 2520 or 2720, I would advise you to specify, up front and in writing, with the dealer that you will be getting the new-style three point hitch arms to avoid the tire clearance issues mentioned elsewhere on this site.

Best of luck on your decision.

I'm pretty sure the "standard" drive over deck and the 7 Iron are from the same gauge steel. The 7 Iron has a faster ratio gearbox and has a deeper deck. I think color has more to do with it being or not being a drive over more than whether it's a 7 Iron:)
